Disneyland Paris: General Discussion

So to be clear, they’ve had a DLP news event, amidst a tonne of rumours that Hyperspace Mountian was finally going to be rethemed, they’ve had an orchestra play a live version of the De Le Terre a La Lune theme at the event and have announced nothing?!

That Twitter post has been deleted now, I assume because nothing has happened with it at the event? What did it say out of interest.

I’m just starting to accept that they’re never going to change this now.

Adventure World, hmmmm, really not sure on that. Seems a very basic name, hardly inspiring. I don't mind the logo so much, although it gives me Disney+ VIBES.

A shame that they've still not announced what the other new area around the lake is going to be. I can only assume that it's either been scrapped for good or is a long way off. And as for no announcements at all for the main park, well what a shock!

I love Disney and DLP, but boy do they frustrate me.

Out of interest, what actually was the last new ride added to Disneyland Park? Off the top of my head, I’m struggling to think of any recent new additions to Disneyland Park, as it seems like much of DLP’s money goes towards the Studios Park (or Adventure World, as it’s now known).

I’ll confess that I’m not the most au fait with Disney compared to other European parks, though, so I could easily have missed some developments.

Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast in 2006. So nearly 20 years since a completely new ride, which is embarrassing to be honest!

It’s such a generic name; it makes you think of a Chinese knock-off park.

As for the prospect of actual new additions, it feels almost farcical how long it is taking them to build anything. Not a Paris exclusive problem of course and it wouldn’t be modern Disney if half of the proposals weren’t cut.

There was a small reference given in the update this weekend about the 3rd new land:

That’s just the beginning! We can’t wait to share more in the future on a brand-new immersive world whose concept and design are currently being finalized by Disney Imagineers.

So it suggests it hasn’t been scrapped, but knowing how slow Disney are at building things it is likely a long way off.

Paris had the issue of not having money and the original Studios being such a cock up they had to focus fixing that up instead of filling in the various blank spaces left available in the main park.

There's at least 3/4 plots of land available to throw stuff in if I recall. But they just haven't for whatever reason.

They have recently got permission to push the 3 rd paris gate (park) back to 2036 so they have 12 years to build and open the 3rd park, donwe have an idea on where it would be ?

Watching all the news about Fantasy Springs (Tokyo Disney Sea) makes me all the more disappointed about the WDS rebrand. But maybe not quite for the reasons you'd think. Clearly Tokyo are paying infinatly more to expand their parks then what Paris has to work with. So I never expected the WDS expansion to be on the same scale. But its the way they've worked it into the wider theme of Disney Sea that shows just how much more they care about the themed experience.

On paper what they are doing is no different to all the other second gates. Adding seemingly random rides based on popular IPs. But they've beautifully tied them together by the Springs in Fantasy Springs being the start of the river that flows into the Sea. Which is also fitting when you consider the IPs are all Disney 'classic' films, that like a spring is where the whole company (and by extension the parks) came from.

This is what WDS really needs. A purpose, something that ties the park together. But every addition just feels like another patch added to what is already a patchwork park. The inclusion of the lake gives them something that could be used to tie everything together. Like how Celestrial Park ties the portals together that connect the different lands in epic universe. But I just get the feeling it only exists to give them a show space, rather than actually tying the lands together like Epcot's World Showcase does.

There is a chance they could still addapt the plan into an overarching theme. In theory the park does fit well into thirds. Pixar on the right, Live action (Avengers) on the left and classic Disney (if they go with the Lion King as rumoured) down the centre. Keep the studios theme up until ToT to bind them all together and they could have you enter each area through similar portals to Universal. A camera lense for live action, a sketch board for classic Disney (even the CG films start with concepts) and a scene in the process of being rendered for Pixar.

But I just don't get the feeling that is their intent, as nothing about the rebranding suggests they are tying the park together.

From what I gather the story of the park is that you arrive in Hollywood and the theatre district is a portal into the worlds of the films. architecturally and aesthetically, the Art Deco of the theatre district transitions to the art nouveau of Adventure way/ bay which blends these two areas where the more realistic World Premier Plaza softens into the fantastical elements of Adventure Way/bay and the stories being told. Adventure bay does have a theme of the water with Tangled being boat themed, Still unsure of what the 2nd Flat ride for this area will hold, it's either Little Mermaid themed or Mary Poppins but there's a potential for both to arrive at some point. The lands on the Adventure bay will represent different biomes with Frozen and Lion King being sort of opposites of each other with Pandora being more of a jungle. As far as I can tell this is sort of the story/ binding theme of the park.

You have to admit though, that took a lot of words for you to explain.

It's not like "Animal Kingdom", or "Disney Sea", or Epcot's "World Showcse" which conjurs up a fairly accurate image of everything you are about to experience in just two words.

Or something that's easy to comprehend like the main Disney Parks:
"Here you leave today and enter the world of yesterday, tomorrow and fantasy"

The biome explorer idea is cool but it's not consistent like Animal Kingdom (Africa, Asia, and maybe soon South America). Especially when Avatar is an alien world, rather than a jungle. What's clever about Fantasy Springs is it highlights the similarities of each IP, not the differences.

I agree with the lack of simplicity however I do believe the park will receive a dedication like the castle parks, I imagine something along the lines of "celebrating" and "living" Disney Adventures etc.

If anything, the new name seems to be an excuse to do the opposite. "Adventure" is one of Disney's most important marketing words, probably third only to "magic" and "wish", which simultaneously mean nothing and everything. This "Adventure" Park, like California Adventure before it, will be a collection of popular Disney properties with the overarching theme of "this is a theme park filled with popular Disney properties and a Twilight Zone ride that we haven't managed to add pop music and Chris Pratt to yet".

Which is generally fine, California Adventure is a decent park at this point - and I admit the Chris Pratt Pop Music Drop Tower does make more sense in 2024 than the Rod Serling Spooky Drop Tower - but that's mostly because California Adventure has several good rides. As for Adventure World, the current lacklustre line-up, plus an as-yet-unannounced flat ride and the 4th (!!!) copy of the Frozen Boat Ride, won't even get me to cross the esplanade if I'm already at DLP, let alone inspire me to book a trip.

At this point for me to ever return to "Adventure World" they would need to add a groundbreaking E-Ticket, something along the lines of Rise of the Resistance or Beauty and the Beast

If it was the version of the frozen ride shown in fantasy springs I'd be much more excited, that is such a good version and so different!
If it was the full version (aka Tokyo) then international visitors would come to the park. If it's the dull Epcot / Hong Kong version then people will know they are getting the lesser and weaker attraction and will go to Tokyo.

WDS is a mess and unless they dump more than a clone and spinner ride in it then it will still be the weakest park.

It needs 2 unique e ticket rides on a grand scale and d attractions to make it worthwhile.

It’ll be an improvement, but I still personally find it all a bit of a cop out and not the drastic transformation they could have made, especially with the fact they’re actively rebranding the park.

The whole Studio 1 and so-called theatre district thing feels very much like the brief was “So you can’t actually change any buildings. Just find a way to make it work.”

More greenery and landscaping will be a welcome change though. I was pretty impressed with what bits they’d done around Avengers Campus. It felt much nicer than the majority of Studios does.
