Disneyland Paris: General Discussion

So this confirms that the Star Wars expansion is dead for Paris then, yes?

Anyone understand why? Lion king is an odd choice considering its not a zoo park like Animal Kingdom. I'm so disappointed, I get Galaxy's edge might have been criticised but it doesn't mean there's no hunger for star wars, just for that design. I understand that if you don't include a known destination it won't be as dated as films become old, but apart from the Millennium falcon it didn't really feel Star Warsy, especially the bazaar/shopping bit. Why not build a tatooine? It features in all 3 trilogies.
there is already a cheap star wars "land" in the castle park in tomorrow land (they butched a lot of the original themeing on the cheap basically putting banners accross old signs with starwars and not thinking much of the theme) the lion king water ride also makes sense, there is currently no water ride that gets you wet (pirates dosn't) and is probably required on the days when France goes to like 35+, There are very few starwars areas that could host a water ride and tie it into the story (a lot of the planets are quite dry).

and they do have to legally build a third park some time in the future (depending on when the government stops defering it) so they could try to make a whole starwars park (I think it could work well if done properly) or make it a land

also starwars is a dying brand, a lot of people have lost intrest and aren't that intrested in it after all of the movies and TV shows on disney +

Of course, but a new design means spending a ton of money and since they already did Galaxy's Edge it would be for a land that could only go in Paris and then maybe some of the Asian parks. A massive shame that Galaxy's Edge precludes them from just doing The Original Trilogy But As Rides for the foreseeable future, and possibly at all.

The fact that Disney somehow managed to mess up Star Wars In Theme Parks is a fumble that will be studied for generations. I like Galaxy's Edge well enough but the gap between what could have easily been and what we got is bigger than the Death Star trench.

I thought it was generally considered Avatar would/could be on the other expansion pad at studios?

Given there’s another 3 films to go, I could see it happening. Flight of passage is a pretty safe ride system and developed in house so would be a sensible option.

And there were rumours of galaxies edge going in the corner of tomorrow land on a car park at one point? Could give the much needed boost to that park.

Avatar is defiantly the strongest current rumour for the third expansion around the lake following the Lion King. I would think a copy of flight of passage would be what they would do, rather than a copy of the planned E-Ticket level boat ride going to California (expected to use Shanghai’s pirates ride system) as the other two expansion frozen and lion king are both boat rides.

Also the Avatar films did extremely well in France way and for way of water highest grossing country outside of the US and China. Which is unusual for France to be the third highest grossing.

Great to see an additional ride coming to Adventure Way, yes it is "only" a Wave Swinger but smaller support rides like this are essential to any theme park. Adventure way looks like it's going to be a beautiful main walkway through the park as well.

I am really hoping that the next major additions at DLP are for Disneyland Park, and I expect Universal coming to the UK is going to force their hand somewhat. Downside of this means it will probably be a land/attraction based on a major IP but alas, that is the way Disney operate these days. And we have Universal and Harry Potter to blame for that!

I am curious about the impact of unniversal on DLP,

I could easily see it going both ways for instance people wanting a mini trip round europe so they head to london, do universal then get a fight or eurostar to paris and do DLP whlist they are there

or rarther than go to DLP where they speak french go to universal where you know they will speak english as more preferable and you can go round london.

Every single person I encountered on our recent trip spoke perfect English (after politely entertaining my atrocious French), from the park to the train to the Ubers to local shops.

I’d be very surprised if that’s a deterrent to many people.
oh yeah, I went it was the same for me, most (if not all) speak english fine I was more thinking about the people who haven't been and may not know that, it may be a factor in their thoughts, it also is a factor with pre-shows where a lot of them are in french.

there is a fear that they get there, stand in a theirter and just get talked to in french not understanding anything then expected to go to a ride, there are preshows with sub titles (e.g spiderman)

Exciting to hear new attractions coming to the DLP resort. Still astounded no new ride has come to the main park in a very long time. As someone not as familiar with the DLP resort as much as Europa, where is the most logical place for a new attraction/land to go? Is there a spot of land readily available to build on inside the main park?

I assume Universal will also be multilingual to some extent, seeing as they’ll want people coming from all over Europe.

Why is this foreign country speaking foreign?

Pretty much everything at DLP is multi-lingual. Or has capacity/option to do so.
It is no criticism on DLP, the same problem exists for all European parks. I just meant more comparing to universal UK it could be a point against visiting DLP (why go if you think you won't understand most of the stories in the rides (you can understand most of them, as a lot don't have words or are in partial english))

I assume Universal will also be multilingual to some extent, seeing as they’ll want people coming from all over Europe.
Would there be much advantage to that, saftey messages in English, spanish, French etc, i would understand similar to florida, but a vast majority of Europeans can speak English as a common language.

Also what language would it be, I would argue most countries are likely to come do you speak German, French, Spanish, Ukrainian, Polish, etc DLP has French audio in sections because it is in France.

How would you do that though? DLP is multilingual because it’s in France so it needs to be in French, and in English because that’s a common language a large proportion of visitors from anywhere around the world may have a basic understanding of.

What language alongside than English at Universal Bedford could be chosen to aid the widest amount of visitors who don’t know basic levels of English?

I think Universal would only go as far as multilingual signage (English, French, and maybe Spanish). I highly doubt we will see multilingual rides and audio.
