Drayton Manor 2013 Topic

Now that's interesting (And quite funny that they'd just leave such a thing lying around in shot :p )...

Not least because (To me at any rate) it looks like the overhead view of the Vekoma Mega Looping Coaster! The turnaround over the lake, plus the long, thin layout with apparent corkscrews for the sea serpent roll midway round seem to be a bit of a giveaway.

Small footprint, six inversions, Vekoma's new track and train design, and a respectable theoretical throughput; If it's true looks like Drayton could be onto a winner here :D

I'm impressed that Drayton managed to have a good last year, considering the amount of £10 entry offers that were available (and the park was still completely dead whenever I used them!).

Shall we make this the general DMP topic? :)

G-force on CF, who runs Drayton Manor Plus and seems to be quite well connected within the park, has said the following on CF:

The waterpark wasn't allowed by planners and due to cost hasn't been resubmitted since.

As for the coaster as i have mentioned before the plans are still for the duel launched coaster replacing the buffalo, originally that was due to happen for next year but i would say more 2015 now at the earliest.

Excalibur is still due its splash battle makeover
pirates is still due to be removed at somepoint and thomas land extended inside
and there is still meant to be a thrill ride planned for the black revolver site
but again timescale for any of these is still a mystery but they are the plans.

I really hope the Thomas plans include a full-on, indoor dark ride. Imagine in that space! A train ride through the Isle of Sodor, with huge open scenes, and beautiful blue skies. It could be amazing!

Some sad news today :( as per the Drayton Facebook page:

Drayton Manor

Today is a very sad day here at Drayton Manor. Our park’s founder and owner, Mr George Bryan OBE, passed away peacefully this morning at home.

Mr Bryan, aged 92, inspired all he met with his passion and dedication to the tourism industry and the park wouldn’t be what it is today without him and his wife, Vera.

The park will continue to be family owned and run by his children and grandchildren.

Please can we ask that you respect the family’s privacy at this sad time.

He must have been a very proud man!

Condolences to the family, it is indeed a sad occasion. Not many people on Earth get to build their own theme park, what a legacy to leave behind.

Just seen this.

RIP.

Some more sad news unfortunately

Today we have some more sad news to share. Our park’s co-founder, Mrs Vera Bryan, passed away peacefully this morning at Good Hope Hospital in Sutton Coldfield. It has been less than a month since her husband’s death, but we take comfort in the fact that they are now reunited once more.

Mrs Bryan, aged 96, dedicated her life to Drayton Manor, her family and supported numerous charities, including the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI). Her passion helped bring joy and laughter to millions of families from the UK and abroad.

The park will continue to be family owned and run by her children and grandchildren. Please can we ask that you respect the family’s privacy at this sad time. Mr and Mrs Bryan will be remembered and never forgotten.

RIP George and Vera.

That's shame both to die within a few weeks but my thoughts go to their family

It's a typical thing really, once one goes the other tends to follow rather shortly after.

Nice for them to be together though!

Um, Im not sure if this means anything but on a youtube video, its a tour looking at Shockwave and G-Force, at the end, the staff showing them around says that the mack launch coaster John Burton designed is official. I first I thought it was amazing until I found out that he is the only staff member talking about this and we would have heard or seen anything like footers by now.

Here is the link to the video, skip to 16:29 about the new coaster:

Here are John Burton's design plans:

Speaking to some people at EP we got the impression Drayton had approached MACK but that the deal never completed.

ok, now I'm even more confused, is it or is it not, because your saying that in the end its not happening but this employee says it is? Why can't they just tell us ?

Bare in mind that video was uploaded back in 2012. A lot can change in that time, especially in this industry, where money can change in the space of a few months. If the Mack coaster was going ahead I'd expect the park to have everything signed and sealed by that point. The ride would probably already have been ordered by then to give notice for manufacturing, and make shipping arrangements, etc.

If it was going ahead for 2014 we'd have heard something by now in terms of planning, and construction would probably be underway by now (groundworks prep at least).

I remember plans for this coaster floating about back in 2010, and it's been rumoured every season since then (and probably before). I'll believe it when I finally see it.

Apparently a the plan was a woodie, but when Blue Fire was built, Drayton Manor was incredibly interested, so they started thinking of ideas for what this coaster may look like, John Burton made his own design
