Drayton Manor Park

I’d like it to keep much smaller animals, more of a farm style zoo, with petting areas or much smaller animals more suited to the enclosures they have there. Seeing their tiger breaks my heart every time. If Drayton are using it for conservation or breeding work (which they seem to), then I’d like them to shout much more loudly about it. The word “zoo” has so many negative connotations to it these days - if it’s just a traditional zoo, especially with Looping owning the safari park close by and with the dual ticket they’ve been offering, I’d prefer for them to have a plan to start scaling it back significantly. I can’t see that the screams and sounds of a busy theme park so close to it is particularly conducive to animal well being in general. It’s a tough one - I totally understand it being a valuable offering to the “family” experience, but I think a lot of parents, schools, wildlife educators etc are educating kids these days that zoo’s in general aren’t great things for animal wellbeing. Especially with the safari park being so close (in the grand scheme of things). Zoos to me are a remnant of a time best left behind, no matter how well intentioned the keepers are, or how well maintained the enclosures (and that’s a whole new subject - because Drayton’s enclosures haven’t looked particularly well maintained to the casual observer for many years now - and that’s with the caveat that I don’t know what I’m looking at!).

Would they even get planning permission to build any rides and attractions at the top end of the zoo. It gets really close to some houses.

Also the zoo is a great attraction for families of all ages to enjoy without having to worry about queues or people not being able to or wanting to ride. Currently I'd argue it adds value to the ticket price when people are looking at options for a day out.

Going back to the 5 year plan we had this for 2023 and 2024.

Did we get the replacement vehicle on an existing ride for 2023. It is confusing as to if this was supposed to be Shockwave or not, because such a similar thing is mentioned for 2024. What is clear is that another attraction is potentially due an upgrade but was shelved.

This also highlights that another ride along side Shockwave and the coaster is due next year. The thing that gives this some potential weight, is apart from the replacement vehicles for this year, the plan has gone go plan sonto speak, and been followed pretty closely.

They also announce a round platform ride and a ride relocation for 2025.

Potentially we could be seeing 3 new additions next year, if you include Shockwave.
I do wonder if the raised walk way to connect Thomas land to the Zoo with be the start of another Expansion of Thomas land that will take over the farm area of the zoo.

I’m sure that Shaun would have been very happy to have gotten these, he does seem to have a really good relationship with the park.

Quite a few people asked Guest Services on the day about the signage and the posters, if they could buy them or have them (including us). We were told that they were already alloted to TPWW as part of the payment for covering the channel's coverage of Shockwave's Last Stand.

Incidentally TPWW didn't declare their complimentary park access, fast pass tickets, promotional gifts nor financial compensation in their video. The ride was also shut down for two cycles, for regular guests, so that they could get their on ride footage and final rides.

Now I like Shawn and Charlotte but there coverage of Shockwave was very early in the morning and they couldn’t be arsed to stay and as soon as they got there footage they left to go back to Alton Towers for the final day.
Now I wouldn’t want the signage as I always want to original signage that was on the side of the building or from other past rides as I got a original sign from the pirate adventure and theming from the jungle cruise.
Them signs should have been given to the the guy who went on the coaster over 20 times on the final day.

I was thinking the same.

Surely the long term ambitions for the park would be to expand west and around the entirety of the lake?

Away from homes, making a balanced park with lots of room for expansion and much better guest flow?

A reconfiguration of the zoo might help. Make it the easier to look after in this country animals and with less types, more of them get bigger homes

Those signs were given away by the rightful owners, to enthusiasts they chose to give them to, in a fair trade for social media coverage.
Who are we to dictate who is the most deserving?

The park have no chance of building anything substantial towards the back of the zoo, it is on the door step of the deer park housing estate.

As far as I can see, nothing needed to be declared in his video, bit of a grey area but the way his videos are, it sort of slips between the cracks of needing to declare anything.

A channel of his size, if he was breaking any rules (he's not) his channel and videos would very quickly be reprimanded. The fact they have not, says all you need to know. Youtube is quite on the ball and strict in that respect.

Back to the zoo, I cannot see it going anywhere, it needs some work but it is a major attraction within the park.

It is also a major component in the parks ability to offer a relatively decent out of season (Christmas) event. Competition is quite strong locally for Christmas events, Drayton have Thomas Land which is great for youngest, the zoo helps offer something for the older guests. The Snowdome is quite literally up the road with its extremely popular Christmas event, for the whole family. Something Drayton can also offer, because of the zoo.

Never say never, but their winter line up would loose alot of custom to local competitors if the zoo was to go, not a good move, especially when most parks, including Drayton are pushing and expanding more winter and out of season events.

That's fair enough, but they've still broken ASA guidelines and not declared sponsorship, payment in kind, or cash, at all on the video.

Can we stick to Drayton Manor discussion please? As has been pointed out multiple times in other topics, TowersStreet is not the place to complain about other websites or creators - especially when they do not participate in discussion here.

If you have an issue with an individual channel or website, then speak to them directly on their own contact channels, not on TowersStreet

Maybe the park want it's spinning capability to be more of a surprise?

It could be something as simple as what Intamin refer to the track type as, but has options of spinning/ non spinning trains. It looks like a number of coaster versions on Intamin's website use the same track type. Maybe it's a multi-dimension coaster?

That said, I think there is a high likelihood DM are being disingenuous when they claim it to not be a spinning coaster.

For what it's worth I'm still with you on this one too, but time will tell!

Before the outright denial they did send some vloggers and people on social media some cease and desist letters, asking them not to publish these photos.

We won't know for certain yet though until the park publish more info, or we see something more during construction. I've always thought it would have programmed controlled spinning elements, on the confirmed launch and lift system, rather than a free spin.

I also don't understand it, especially as it's mentioned on all the labels. If it was a misprint surely they'd have rectified it by now?

Well find out for certain when the trains are revealed.
