Flamingo Land: General Discussion

Flip flop has been awful for years, but I'm not sure whether it's removal is suggestive of a new area coming or whether it's a sign that the park is trying to economise by ridding itself of legacy rides.

Can't help but worry it's the latter if 2 years down the line they still haven't finished the river ride.

Flamingo Land are quite fortunate in the respect that there isn't a great deal of serious competition in the area. They can continue to run a shabby looking park and still attract punters due to lack of choice.

PB and the merlin parks are far enough away that gives them a captive audience in the North. Lightwater Valley going down the pan quicker than themselves and turning away from thrills has probably helped boost numbers again too. So don't hold your breath on them investing millions into the place. They know they don't need to.

My last trip there was quite a long time ago now but I'd still say it's one of the worst theme park days I have ever endured. If you offered me free tickets for a date of my choosing in the 2026 season I still wouldn't go. It's not worth the 4hr round trip and what it would cost me in petrol.

Mingo makes real money on the campsite and caravans...especially on kids sports competitions run at the site...pretty much year round.
The theme park and zoo do not make money, they are the loss leaders for the campsite, and keep that successful.

So a theme park that runs the theme park as a low priority.

Whilst I agree that lack of competition works in their favour, it is now the most expensive theme park in the UK to purchase a day ticket for. I honestly don’t see how they can justify this, particular since there are relatively few Merlin-esque discounts available.

I'm pretty sure that all the van renting campers get free entry to the park...hence the ever popular site...let the kids go play on the rides while the adults get down to some serious drinking in a prefab...

Edit...and the vans are around a grand for a three night stay mid season...there's your steady income...stuff the park!
Camping in your own tent in the peak...nearly ninety quid per person per night...not bad for a field.

Camping prices in the UK are bonkers.

Some friends of ours asked us a few years ago if we wanted to go glamping in Cornwall for a week during the summer holidays with them. We said we'd look into it but the cost was eye watering. It came to well over half what our 11 night family holiday to Dubai cost us earlier in that year.

I'm not against a good old UK camping holiday and sometimes they can be a lot of fun if you get fortunate with the weather. However they just aren't value for money anymore at peak times.

Rip off Britain indeed.

A grand for 3 nights on a caravan park next to Flamingo land? Hahahaha. I'll pass thanks.

The argument they make is that it can hold 6 people, and if bought at the cheaper rate of about 750 when people are planning holidays at the start of the year it works out roughly 60 pounds per person per night.

They are just Butlins by any other name.

The loch Lomond deal was probably seen as a no brainer for them; less to spend on maintenance more can be charged but every time the park has ran more than one thing like pleasure island being the obvious one, but across the years they have had dabbles in several other things like currently the waterpark at Scarborough, it always coincides with a poor spell and underinvestment for the park.

It has the scope to be a centre parks like experience, the ambition to be something sub haggerston castle.

I honestly despair of the park.
