Football Discussion

This has been bubbling away for years now, even under Fergie in the 09/10 season there were protests with the green and gold movement. After he and Gill left the way the club has been run has been a bit of a disaster. The Glazers know they don't need success on the pitch to make money. The ESL was probably the straw that broke the camel's back.

Getting English football's biggest match postponed certainly sends a big message, however some of the scenes were unsavoury. I read yesterday they managed to get in via the Megastore, not sure if that's accurate.
 
To me it looks like the protest, which was for the most part peaceful and carried out by proper Manchester United fans, got taken over by thugs who only wanted to go out and cause trouble. Same with any protests these days, the minority spoil it for the majority. I don't see how throwing around TV companies camera equipment aids in a protest against the Glazers owning Manchester United!?

Manchester United and the police also need to take a long hard look at themselves as clearly security was woefully inadequade at Old Trafford.
 
Why is the news acting like Man City are the first British team to ever reach the UCL final?

this morning the news said 'In one of the biggest nights ever in British football, Man City reach the champions league final'

It is good for city to reach the final, but biggest night in British football? Not at all. in the past 10 years Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham have all reached the final with Liverpool and Chelsea winning it - it might be Man City's biggest ever night but not British footballs
 
To be fair, they played PSG off the park. Their second goal especially last night was a thing of beauty. I think that is one reason for much of the hysteria, they are a special special team.

Good luck at the weekend, it would be lovely to see you win and take Derby (and Rooney) down!
 
I love how with one game to go there are four teams fighting to survive relegation from the championship and no one is confirmed relegated yet (although divine intervention would be required for Wycombe to stay up as they would have to win, Derby and Rotherham would have to lose and Wycombe would have to make up an 11 (or 12+ if Wednesday win) goal difference)
 
From the games I have watched this season, Wednesday have been awful so can't have any complaints if they go down. I don't think Derby have been much better from what I have heard.

But looking on the bright side, there is always the Pappa Jon's trophy to look forward to :)

Same here, my heart was in my mouth following that game. :p
And we've got the most experienced ref on Saturday, not to mention a Premier League one; Mike Dean is taking charge of Derby v Wednesday. Just shows how massive this game is. :tearsofjoy:
 
Great evening as a Chelsea fan. It will be interesting to see the game this weekend as it will see how close Chelsea and City are. Looking at both games, City were much more clinical but Chelsea never die, they fight until the end so I am expecting a great CL final
 
I'm thinking about getting a Sky Sports day pass to watch the match but I'm not sure I can bear to watch it. :tearsofjoy:

A win would see the Owls safe IF Rotherham fail to beat Cardiff.
A win would not be enough for the Owls IF Rotherham beat Cardiff.
A draw or defeat would see the Owls relegated.

DERBY

A win would see the Rams safe and Wednesday and Rotherham relegated.
A draw would see Derby safe IF Rotherham fail to beat Cardiff.
A draw would see Derby relegated IF Rotherham win at Cardiff.
A defeat would see Derby relegated.

ROTHERHAM

A win would see Rotherham safe IF Derby fail to beat Wednesday.
A draw or defeat at Cardiff would see Rotherham relegated.

A very good question, but unfortunately I am no expert !!

It's been over 25 years since Wednesday have been a force in the top flight and much longer since United were near the top of the top division. Both the grounds are old and outdated and not really up to the standards of recently built stadiums.

Rotherham have always been a much smaller club so have done well to get to the 2nd tier. They arguably have the best ground though !!

The answer to the Sheffield clubs woes is to combine, call them Sheffield City, play in red and blue stripes and build a big shiny new stadium. Wouldn't go down too well with most of the fans though.

As for today, I don't think I can bring myself to watch.
