Football Discussion

Someone will eventually buy Barca and quite possibly that someone is already facilitating the debt ready to make a bid, Dubai TV company 8TV allegedly tabled a bid for £1.2B last year. Unfortunately @Jb85 unlike Bury and Macclesfield they have brand appeal and will quite easily become some millionaires play thing.
Speaking of which...

This is Wrexham will be on Disney Plus next month, having seen the trailer its definitely going on the "This is Sunderland" working class story. It's a shame having seen some of the people who have been involved vs the people that should be front and centre in this documentary, its clear a narrative is being pushed. Hopefully they are looking to rebuild the town (always town to me) and won't punch down to heavily and feature all of the village idiots :p Great to see my mates DVD shop (Mad4Movies) will be pushed on there, hoping for a Green Lantern gag at some point from Rob :D

There's a new piece on the BBC Football website about Barcelona. They've sold 25% of the next 25 years worth of their domestic TV rights income to a US investment firm for £500 million. That's how they're now funding these new signings. Lets hope they fail miserably and then have to go on with only 75% of their domestic TV money whilst their opponents are keeping all if theirs. Still morally bankrupt that they've raised this money but have made their earlier debtors wait for years or whatever to get their money back.

I read that. How can any viable business mortgage it's future income by that amount? Unless they are planning on buying the rights back

I hope they fail

If you've got one of the naughty billionaires then you're actually alright. It's the ones who havn't got naughty billionaires and try to compete on transfers/wages with them who come unstuck as it's not sustainable. Barcelona's problem is they don't have a naughty billionaire of their own but they're acting like they do. Naughty naughty club!

I'll be honest, I don't usually watch women's football as in the few games I have seen the gulf in quality between the two teams has made them look like training games where one team has to score as many as they can! However I did catch a lot of last nights game and it was really enjoyable, some great football and goals by England! The back heal was so audaciously brilliant!

Weirdly went for a spa day at Carden Park on Sunday and bumped into some of the Swedish Ladies team. CP is their training camp and after a quick chat I wished them good luck. Seems like they were still in Spa mode on Tuesday night.

After tuning in I was really impressed with the game and thought England played extremely well. Some great saves from the keeper coupled with some quality goals. I'll be coming back for the final and it's good to see a lot of people embracing it for the first time (myself included).

Interesting to see that Blake Lively has sponsored the Wrexhams women's team with her Betty Buzz brand today as well. I think Ladies football has had a shot in the arm over the last few years, this tournament has been a breath of fresh air this year and we'll hopefully see a lot more in the near future 😀

IT'S COMING HOME!!!

"Knock knock."

"Who's there?"

"Football, I'm home!" Waiting to say that for a wee while.

Anyway, even as a Scot, well done to the ladies for winning, though I have to find it funny that with them being called lionesses is that in the wild, lionesses do all the hunting while the (three) lions just sleep all day. :p

When our second goal went in I thought we'd won given the reaction. Then after going berserk myself I realised that we still had to finish the time 🤣

It’s coming home. It’s finally coming home. I legitimately cried happy tears, to the point that a bartender on the resort I am currently staying on asked if I’m ok and I said “yes,im crying happy tears” (3 rum and cokes deep I must admit). As a woman who played football throughout her childhood and teens in the 00’s, this means so much. I am so proud right now, how far the womens game has come, it’s coming home. The women have done it, after so many years of being told we aren’t good enough, I can’t believe it.

I didn't watch much of the tournament but I did watch the final.

Taking the top off after the goal was definitely the highlight

I only watched the final too, but glad I did and I regret not watching the previous matches.

Another highlight was the team crashing their manager's press conference, that was great. 🤣
I do feel that the result could have been very different had Popp not had to withdraw just before kickoff. Was a shame for her and her team but a good omen for us.

I didn't catch the final as I was underground playing mini golf, (not hiding I promise) the game started earlier than I had thought it would. I did catch the aftermath and hunted out the highlights for the first time.

This is a real watershed moment for the women's game and we'll see a bigger push in WSL next year. One thing I really liked out about England winning, was an already successful female manager winning back to back tournaments, as opposed to an ex-male pro looking for an easy management gig.

Congratulations to England. Although hopefully Gemma Grainger will have a blueprint to emulate your success at the World Cup 😜
