Football Discussion

Forest will struggle next season no doubt. Great to see a traditional name back though.

If only Sheffield Wednesday could sort it out

In a week we've lost a cup final at Wembley ( I forgot how far away that place is to go and lose) and we've been binned out of the Play-Off semi finals in a cracking 5-4 defeat for the neutrals. Zero defending, terrible reffing (for both sides), a Mardonna-esque finish and a goal in the last minute.

So after another season of finishing 2nd in the league we get nothing except a 15th year in this division.

At least the documentary will have it's sucker punch of an ending.

I maintain that there should be three promotion slots from the National League to League 2, (although Barrow wouldn't be happy), I also think the playoff quarter finals are unnecessary.

Absolutely but not just Barrow would disagree, I think most teams in the bottom 10 would vote against it. I think they need 14 teams in league 2 to vote for it and Turkeys voting for Christmas springs to mind.

Yeah the quarters are baffling, Grimsby finished 6th place, 10 points behind Solihull yet they can beat them on Sunday to go up. There's something in the Italian Serie A relegation play offs, if you finish 10 or more points above the team below you are safe and don't need to play the extra game.

We've been here long enough to see the league transform from mostly part time clubs to it now being a graveyard for ex-league clubs and pretty much all full-time setups. I think it will be adopted into "league 3" in the not so distance future.

On the plus side I don't need to get to the Olympic Stadium, on a Bank Holiday weekend, during a tube strike and miss out on Wales potentially qualifying for their first world cup since 1958 :D

Was gutted to see Mansfield (my home town) lose in the Play off final on Saturday. We were on such a good run, come from second bottom after 14 games to receive an absolute thrashing. Always next season I guess!

Ok didn't know it was something the league members would vote on, thanks!

Unless Scotland has something to say to that! ;)

Yes such a shame that the referee for that game actually decided to punish their bullying behaviour and thuggish challenges, unlike the bottlejobs who officiated the semi final matches.

A terrible, nasty team. Deserving of League Two.

I have to say the setup doesn’t seem logical. Grimsby have been ok this season, but nowhere near Wrexham, Stockport and Solihull.

Here’s hoping Solihull go up.

Would rather Grimsby go up than Solihull, although that's purely on the basis that they have an adequate stadium which can accommodate more than 8 away supporters.

Grimsby started badly and hit a better run of form at the right time but Solihull have been mostly solid all season but the football isn't pretty. Whichever team stays down I hope we sigh McAtee/Sbarra to boost our midfield. I do think Grimbsy will be stronger next year so hoping they go up just that bit more.

Damson Park is ok, if you ever survive the potholed car park that is. Although I have never seen Wrexham win there but had 2 quality moments that have distracted from the dross of both games I have attended;

  1. My mate tried to spend a £50 to get through the turn style which led to 5 stewards assessing and googling pictures of £50 notes to see if it was genuine, a radio call was then sent to a club official in a suit a who came down and to let us in.
  2. Someone found a light switch in the middle of the stand that turned off all the lights in the stand. This happened a further twice until a steward had to stand next to the switch for the rest of the game.
If you haven't seen it, the Play Off final is being played at the Olympic stadium, which is a ludicrous decision given that Solihull is the most southern team that finished in the Play Offs. The ticket prices have now been revealed at £40 per adult and £20 per child. Clearly the NL would have been happier with a Wrexham vs Notts County final where they would have likely sold 90% of the stadium. It was cheaper to watch Forest vs Huddersfield at Wembley last week and some CL tickets were cheaper.

Fans have been uniting to help Grimsby and Solihull fans by pledging to pay for tickets. - See the Mariners Trust timeline for some awesome examples of fan unity. Even the SWFC Supporters Club got involved @Skyscraper

Lmfao give over - both teams we played in the play offs went down so easily. Oli Hawkins made two stupid decisions yes, but let’s be real ffs

Well that sucked. Utterly spineless from us! :weary:

Suppose the consolation is that it is the one WC I didn't want to go to given the controversy of Qatar and that we are now not the villains of Europe now...that honour now lies on the Taffies.
