Football Discussion

I've been keeping away from most of the coverage. I've struggled to get my head around what happened. 28 years old. Leaving a young family behind and his parents. I'm not a father, I can't imagine the pain of seeing one of your children's coffin. Never mind both at the same time.

I not been able to get to Anfield. My parents went and they have said it was overwhelming. I think I need to go, just to see others going through what I am. Working as a HGV driver I'm on my own. Don't know many reds away from family to speak about the feeling. I will never see that man play at Anfield again. Such a strange feeling. I was in the ground when scored his last against Everton. I will cherish that goal more than I will any other

I was looking through my phone and came across the images I took during the parade. This is the only clear shot I have of any player.
YNWA our Number 20.

Definitely try and go if you can. When our owner, Khun Vichai, died in the helicopter crash I went down to King Power Stadium several times and although it was overwhelming it was a source of comfort to see the outpouring of love from our own fans and fans of other clubs.

Although for very sad reasons, those memories will stay with me forever.

Looked back at my photos from the parade and he was in all my pictures with him at the front waving.

Still doesn't seem real at all.

Think the club have handled it really well with the statements made on the evening after it happened and doing the hour long live tribute show outside the ground on Monday.

Even into the week with players and staff laying tributes and saying a few words. All whilst allowing the players to return to training on Tuesday with no fanfare, arrival videos or anything.

First games on Sunday away to Preston which I'm sure will be emotional, then it's off to Asia for a few games which at least will let the players come together and be in each other's company every day.

Then the first game (s) at Anfield against Bilbao, the Community Shield, and then the home opener on the Friday night against Bournemouth.

The club put out a video of all his goals and so many were key, no more than his final goal against Everton. We'd wobbled ever so slightly with the Champions League exit abd League Cup Final defeat and he put us back on track. Probably an argument it ended the title race that night.

Hopefully the club in discussion with the family can figure out a fitting tribute to Diogo and his brother.
