Football Discussion

I've been keeping away from most of the coverage. I've struggled to get my head around what happened. 28 years old. Leaving a young family behind and his parents. I'm not a father, I can't imagine the pain of seeing one of your children's coffin. Never mind both at the same time.

I not been able to get to Anfield. My parents went and they have said it was overwhelming. I think I need to go, just to see others going through what I am. Working as a HGV driver I'm on my own. Don't know many reds away from family to speak about the feeling. I will never see that man play at Anfield again. Such a strange feeling. I was in the ground when scored his last against Everton. I will cherish that goal more than I will any other

I was looking through my phone and came across the images I took during the parade. This is the only clear shot I have of any player.
YNWA our Number 20.

Definitely try and go if you can. When our owner, Khun Vichai, died in the helicopter crash I went down to King Power Stadium several times and although it was overwhelming it was a source of comfort to see the outpouring of love from our own fans and fans of other clubs.

Although for very sad reasons, those memories will stay with me forever.

Looked back at my photos from the parade and he was in all my pictures with him at the front waving.

Still doesn't seem real at all.

Think the club have handled it really well with the statements made on the evening after it happened and doing the hour long live tribute show outside the ground on Monday.

Even into the week with players and staff laying tributes and saying a few words. All whilst allowing the players to return to training on Tuesday with no fanfare, arrival videos or anything.

First games on Sunday away to Preston which I'm sure will be emotional, then it's off to Asia for a few games which at least will let the players come together and be in each other's company every day.

Then the first game (s) at Anfield against Bilbao, the Community Shield, and then the home opener on the Friday night against Bournemouth.

The club put out a video of all his goals and so many were key, no more than his final goal against Everton. We'd wobbled ever so slightly with the Champions League exit abd League Cup Final defeat and he put us back on track. Probably an argument it ended the title race that night.

Hopefully the club in discussion with the family can figure out a fitting tribute to Diogo and his brother.

All hopes lie with CAS appeal.

Forest also buying plenty of players from Lyon & Botafogo probably just coincidence too.

I'll believe it when I see mate. My hunch is that any punishment is going to be pathetic and the authorities are trying to work out how to handle the negative PR fall-out from it. The word was that the case was heard back at the start of the year (behind closed doors naturally) and that it wouldn't be long after that announcements would be made. April was suggested as the latest. It's July now. Does anyone even have any concrete sources on what's happened over the past few months? As far as I can see they've just totally shut up shop and are hoping it all goes away or someone brings in a new financial rules model so that they can pardon City. Unless there are any good links anyone wants to provide? Why are the authoities so scared to communicate what's going on? Delay's are somewhat acceptable if they're explained. Why is the whole thing such a massive secret?

Liverpool have announced, after discussion with his family, that they'll be retiring the Number 20 side from all age levels and the womens side in tribute to Diogo.

Absolutely the right decision, and announcing the news at 20:20 in the evening was a nice touch. I'm planning to watch the friendly match on Sunday.

RIP Diogo 😔

I think they will be worried of giving anything to the press. In case city's lawyers can use it. Remember, innocent till proven guilty

The difference in price for the Community Shield and FA Cup final shows the greed of the FA.
When questioned on it they tried to argue the ticket prices was the going rate for a major sporting event.

Which shows how clueless they are, if I wanted a ticket for the British Grand Prix, or The Open Championship I can just attempt to buy tickets for that event. I dont have to go to a racing event at Oulton Oark, or go watch some Open qualifying events to then be allowed to buy a ticket for those events.

Also Liverpool have been given 30,000 tickets so I assume Palace would be the same. So were have about 13,000 tickets gone? (Club Wembley to my knowledge is the other 17,000 tickets)

A number of tickets go to the "FA Family". Which is a few grassroots football clubs and some benefactors no doubt.

The 30k allocation also lower than the Semi-Final allocation.

Not going because a faff to get down there. Especially on a Sunday.

Let's not forget they had to change the name from the Charity Shield as it turned out very little was actually making its way to charities.
Same here. Too much of a faff to get to London. Too expensive to stop. Especially for a glorified friendly.
Really poor its not on the Saturday to make things easier for supporters travelling. Last time when it was played in Leicester I got offered tickets about 2 days before the match so it was too late to sort anything.

The 2006 one against Chelsea in Cardiff was a great day out though.
