Norwich aren't exactly flying unfortunately. Amazing to think we could have beaten the European Champions and still end up going down.

Not the first time it's happened, certainly won't be the last...

I sense Norwich did the win a few early games and a little over confident since... Pukki seemingly been found out and of course if you don't beat the team's around you even beating the Champions doesn't matter...
 
I think we've got to work on the defence we're letting far too many goals in, however there's still a good chance we could stay up, remember last season nobody thought we'd end up winning the league!
 
Gas Ole found the wheels again? Putting a nice run together all of a sudden. Three at the back is the way to go for Utd
 
I've hated VAR from day one. Despite it largely benefiting Leicester this season I still hate it and with every passing week there is yet more proof that it simply does not work. There seems to be even more of a lottery as to whether or not your team will get a decision, technology is not accurate enough to rule out goals for 'armpit' offsides and the flow of games is being ruined. Communication to fans is also a joke.

If the Premier League are going to insist that the on-field referee will not use the pitch side monitor then they need to broadcast the discussions between the referee and the VAR as that all fans know what is going on and why a decision has been made.

Either that or scrap it, which would be my preference.
 
What VAR has really done is show how daft the offside rule actually is... As you can legally touch the ball with your shoulder, being an armpit offside is technically the correct decision, no matter how daft it sounds...

Not using either screens for the refs or to illustrate to the fans is a problem though... They could easily use the 18 grounds with screens to broadcast the viewpoint (and tell Man Utd and Liverpool to get some) so no one is really confused... As for the refs I have a concern that some refs would often side with their own decision even if the evidence is to the contrary...
 
I think something like VAR needs to be apparent in football. I can get why people hate it, but I don't really buy the argument of people saying "VAR will ruin the magic of football!" When those same people have been complaining for years about dodgy decisions.

It's benefited us twice this season. We had a last minute winner disallowed against West Ham despite Ayew being offside, and Zaha was booked for diving against Arsenal, but thanks to VAR those two decisions were rightfully overturned and collectively we got three points out of them. On the other end I've seen it disbenefit England in the Nations League, and whilst frustrating, it was correct.

It also saw a non-existant foul on an Arsenal player to disallow their winning goal against you. How that was clear and obvious I will never know!

Goals cannot be celebrated quite like they used to because you never know whether or not the VAR is going to look for a way to disallow it. VAR seems to be a tool to ensure that more goals than ever are ruled out, which is a pity. Without improvements it will drive away some fans.
 
*sighs in non-league* I wish I could whinge about VAR. We got knocked out the playoffs despite scoring a goal that clearly crossed the line. If the officials are good at this level they get fast tracked up the leagues and we end up with the dross.

Back to VAR, as a neutral I think the EPL need to adjust the rules to benefit VAR. I'd bring back the clear daylight in offsides to give the benefit to the attacker, limit VAR to 2 calls per half and you don't lose your call if the decision is overturned and limit the amount of replays. If its not clear and obvious after 4 replays, then its not a clear and obvious mistake.

In all honesty this puzzles me as well, it didn't look like a Palace foul, but I'm not complaining ;) Worth remembering as well that Arsenal had 2 goals offside when they played Liverpool a few days later but there wasn't any VAR there.

I agree that VAR is flawed, but I think at the end of the day football needs something like it to turn over dodgy decisions by officials on the pitch.

I obviously can say it from first hand as Palace have not dis-benefitted from it, but I wouldn't be surprised if I ever felt this way. With that said, as I said I watched England in the Nations League and was buzzed to see Lingard get a late winner before it was ruled out, THAT was frustrating. I know you're a regular away day traveller with Leicester and does take a bite out of what makes them so special.

I think they have bought him in because hes a serial winner - won at least 1 trophy with every club hes been at

Hope him and Spurs fail miserably, but can't see it happening. He's going to instantly get rid of their loser mentality.

Yeh but to be fair they did screw him over

it’s a good fit if you ask my- the champions league run papered over cracks that have been there for a while. Look at the league losses in 2019 - quite alarming
