Football Discussion

Great result. Annoyingly was on my way to Manchester to see Bruce Springsteen so only managed to catch the first 30 minutes (clearly the most important part). In Manchester saw it was in stoppage time then sort of forgot until in a taxi and we started seeing loads of dejected looking city fans suddenly on the streets.

Amusingly walking past the Etihad a guy asked if we could take his photo, and he did a Bruce Forsyth style pose in front of the stadium. Turned out he was a Palace fan.

Anfield next Sunday should be good fun, can we do some sort of double guard of honour?

And the Community Shield in August as well.
 
Sadly in Scotland yesterday, a disgraceful incident happened.

During Dundee United's victory over Aberdeen which saw them qualify for Europe, a pitch invasion happened and a Aberdeen fan threw a chair at a United fan but ended up hitting an Aberdeen player in the process who now might sadly miss the Cup final next week.

A life ban for sure but sadly Scottish football is over the last few years post Covid starting to see a rise of hooligan behaviour and many disruption for matches in which I fear if not stopped will see an English hooligan mindset take root.

Sorry double post. But I didn't want to spoil Palace celebrations.

It's been slowly creeping up for a while. It's best avoid Leeds when they are at home. Pockets of away fans causing havoc. My missies works on east coast main line and the rise In drug offensive and fighting is staggering. They have a league table of which group of supporters are the worst. She studies the fixtures on a weekend to see which class of bellends she will get.

Still, at least Stone Island make a good profit from them.
 
...and dragging to footie topic back to coasters, back in the day, there was no way my mum would let me do the Beach on the train on a Saturday if Leeds were playing Blackburn, Preston or Blackpool.
The Beach wasn't safe on most big club awaydays either, Blackpool was always a popular away match back in the naughty days.
 
Nice to see The Ev and TNT give a nice send off to Goodison Park on Sunday. Didn't go that often, my first game there was to see Brazil vs Japan. But when you went to an Everton game and something happens to get the crowd going that goodison roar was something else.

Hopefully the new stadium works well for them.
 
I think it's good that they have given it to the women as well to use. As I've heard some supporters say, bricks and seats with names of family members and friends no longer with us are attached to that stadium. That's sometimes forgotten when sides move on. Those terraces, seats, concourses are where people went to the footie for the first time. Those areas are where memories of people long gone come forward more.

It was an old school ground that had charm and character. When you see old clips from the 66' world cup or that 4-4 draw back in '91 you can still see that it's goodison. Exactly the same, with less seats.

I hope the new gaff does work well. But I fear the lack of thought on getting supporters In and out of the place maybe a concern. Was hoping to go and see the Rugby League game there but couldn't get a ticket time.

Was shocked at how big the main stand was when I first visited. The TV cameras don't really do it justice.

Possibly my favourite ground in the league, it's a huge loss.
 
Yeah I'm glad it's staying, imagine in the coming years they'll knock down and rebuild some of the stands. Probably retain the Park End (it's relatively new), and the Main Stand.

It's something they should've looked at years ago and potentially looked at getting LFC women on board to play there as well. Now we've got that long term deal with St Helens instead.

Was thinking that as well, who knew Rugby League was so popular?

I've got some league cup away credits so I'd take the Ev away in the third round next season.

England have a fixture at an unannounced venue in the autumn, imagine that'll be evertons ground once the safety certificate is confirmed.

Yeah the access, and public transport is definitely a concern. Sandhills isn't great when Liverpool are at home so for the new ground it'll struggle to cope. Feels like an utter failure of Everton, the council, and relevant transport bodies.

Yeah it is.

Was trying to work out which grounds I still really want to get to a game at in England and its probably just Fulham now, and Evertons new one.

Have done Anfield (obviously), Old Trafford, Ethiad, The Emirates, Villa Park (classic ground), Stamford Bridge (cracking ground), Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham (for a gig), Newcastle, Elland Road and West Brom.

Stadium MK, Leicester, Derby, Tranmere, Accrington Stanley, Chester, Bury, Dagenham & Redbridge, Wembley, Swansea, Millennium Stadium, Shrewsbury (Gay Meadow)
