Lando's first win, and what a performance from him. McLaren had the quickest race car, and Lando was the quickest driver. He did not make any mistakes in the race, and if there is anyone who deserved a little good luck, it was Lando.
Hopefully this continues in Imola, and it was not just a one off. If the Ferraris, McLarens and RedBulls are this close for the rest of the season, it is going to make for a very interesting season moving forward.
Race Control made a mess of the safety car, picking up the wrong car. This would of made it very tight whether Lando would of got out ahead of Max. The bigger issue though, and I assume McLaren did not have a decent set of Mediums, was that after Lando pitted, because he was not behind the safety car, he then had a big enough gap to pit a second time, and put the faster Mediums on, which really would of given him a nice advantage over the others.
Its a shame we had the safety car, Landos pace was so good (Lapping faster on used Mediums compared to new Hards on max) that he was going to close the gap, and have a really good chance of passing Max for the win on track, and Hards which had done less laps. That would of made the win even more special but as I said, it was still a well deserved win for Lando, and I dont think anyone is sad about this result.
Yuki has gone under the radar this weekend, and while his finish in the spring race was overshadowed by Danny Ric finishing in 4th, its worth nothing the Yuki started the sprint in 15th, and managed to finish in 8th, keeping Lewis behind for most of the race when his soft tyres were past there best. In the race, he finished a solid 7th, and apart from a small mistake early in the race where he ran wide and let Russell past, he dove a solid race, put up a good defence against Lewis who was on the medium tyres, and pulled a decent gap to Russell. Yuki is now 10th in the standings, on 14 points, and only 13 points behind Lewis.
