Future of the Congo River Rapids

I haven't been on CRR for years, is the tunnel materially different than it always has been ?
Lighting was added (probably following the Drayton Manor incident) so it is now very obvious its just bare concrete.
It used to just rely on the darkness to hide the concrete, there is only a small amount of rockwork on the outside.Serious question, did that tunnel ever have rock theming on the inside yet was removed years later? I agree it needs theming as it reminds me of that road tunnel going through Stoke on the way to the park.

Couple of screenshots of an on ride video from YouTube.
Essentially you can now see everything you were never supposed to see.

What is it with Merlin and tunnels that look like car parks?

TBH, that tunnel was done in the Tussauds days so I guess nothing has changed since then. I suspect had Tussauds knew then the tunnel would be lit up in the future then they might have had some long term thinking in making the tunnel have rock theming.

I didn’t realise how bad that tunnel looked, that is honestly an absolute disgrace for a theme park! Yet there been mucking around with speakers and silly tribal plaques? This should definitely be a priority, Look at Drayton manor tunnel in comparison absolutely appalling, it wouldn’t even cost much to change. They can also take away the lights and have better night Vision cameras If that’s an issue. I wish they just change the boats and stop cutting corners, that way can implement some fun water effects and and overall customer satisfaction. Not a single person likes the rapid ride anymore, I’m sure if they did a survey it be nearly 100% feel it’s not entertaining enough. Drayton spent the money and the results pay for them selfs long term!
Does anyone have a image of Thorpe park rubble on the rapids? However there’s is overall more depressing!

Drayton may have paid the money but they are now worse than Altons. You come off dryer.

Have they lost all the water effects, air blasts, spray hoses, smell pods and misters in the tunnel? The theming and painting better mind if they keep on top of it.

All the spray effects yes. Mist no. Besides that doesn't really get you wet.

Jeez, haven't been on the Rapids in forever, didn't realise the tunnel was lit up. Looks awful, worse than the Air tunnel I would say. It wouldn't break the bank to do something with it, clad the walls with wooden panels or some Leek Signs vinyl or something, anything.
Can't wait for us to still be moaning in the 'Katanga Canyon Tunnel' thread in 10 years time.

They could have a Mixtape-style ride where the outdoor seating was for KFC/Pizza Pasta themed around Kangaroos. And then creating an adventure trail with rope bridges in and around Runaway Mine Train and Congo River Rapids!Honestly change “Katanga Canyon” to “Kanga Canyon”, add a new flat ride and do a light retheme to Australia. This could then budget for a proper refresh of the rapids including the tunnel
Then have all the paving themed as desert roads with silly signs such as "Kangaroo Crossing". And adding additional theming pieces around the rapids with animals such as koalas, spiders and of kangaroos and other set pieces such as surfboards, and theme in and around the rapids tunnel to be the Great Barrier Reef, with colourful lighting and rockwork!
