Gardaland

I don't think the size of the area is as big an issue as some people are thinking that it is. The park is hardly short of kids rides, this area doesn't need to fulfill the role of being the kid's area in the resort, because it isn't that.

It's going to complement the other areas and rides and will allow them to utilise what I am sure will be a popular IP. You don't need a whole host of new rides to do that when you have an inventory as rich as Gardaland's elsewhere in the park.
I completely get you @Rick, because thinking about it, this will be Gardaland's 4th kids area. I was only thinking that it seemed a tad small compared to the likes of Paultons' Peppa Pig World and CBeebies Land at Alton Towers. It is bigger than Kung Fu Panda Academy, though, which I will give it.

The reality is Gardaland is a complete package as it is. Entertainment, coasters and other attractions are all done to a high standard, which is why it is my number 1 park in the world. The only area that really needs work is where the dolphin stadium and ice age are in, but this seems to be where the new attraction for 2019 is rumoured to go. Peppa Pig will only strengthen the park even further.

Gardaland is a park which you wouldn't suspect was owned by Merlin unless you visited.

That said, I am confident the reason behind the entertainment is to increase capacity (as it is the most visited park in Merlin's portfolio).

A couple of interesting pieces of Gardaland news:
  • It has been rumoured that Sequoia Adventure has now left the resort.
  • Gardaland has under-performed for the last year, but I can only presume it is to do with the operation flop that was Shaman.
  • I Corasai is being revamped for this season, with a ghost theme involved.
  • 3 new shows are coming, as well as a San Andreas 4D experience.
  • It appears that Gardaland is getting a Magic hotel, from the recent Merlin report.

I hope I Corsari isn't changed much.

That is one of the best dark rides in Europe.

Merlin suggested Gardaland's performance was down to weather. Make of that what you will.

To their credit, there was some pretty serious flooding in the region.

I can't really comment as I've never been. But I believe them, there is no way the performance could be down to Merlin themselves!

The weather of course was significant but I still think that Shaman underperformed, especially when you consider the previous two years were with major attractions. 2015 was Oblivion: The Black Hole. 2016 was both Kung Fu Panda Academy and the Adventure Hotel. Shaman opened late and with lots of technical difficulties, which certainly didn't help the park. Also, there was a minor incident with Sequoia Adventure, which led to it being SBNO for lots of the season. At least, this season it seems will be a good one for the park with the shows, new 4d experience and the peppa pig area. Looking forward for the future, it seems like a new family coaster will be coming to the Rameses site.

It's not exactly a bad decision. In recent years, theming has been taken away and really the best part of the attraction is the use as a projection mapping site for the night-time Summer shows.

This park looks incredible. Everything from the Oblivion sequel to their wing coaster Raptor...I need to book a flight to Italy.

I wouldn't call Gardaland 'incredible' particularly. Within the well themed rides is some absolute garbage.

Saying that, it has got a nice atmosphere and a couple of very good dark rides. Fastrack is oversold though - and staggered openings are the norm.

Below the top league of Phantasialand, EP, Efteling etc. - Gardaland is there.

:)

Gardaland is quite magical, personally. The rides are by no means perfect but it is by far the best Merlin theme park. If you don't like Gardaland, Movie Land is nearby and that park is crazy!

I agree it is quite magical. It is a nice park.

Due to the way Alton is run, Gardaland is the de facto best park in the group.

The Merlin accommodation boom continues...

Gardaland have announced that a new €20 million 4 star hotel will open at the resort in 2019. The new hotel will be themed to the world of magic. At least this is better than sheds, I suppose... :p

Gardaland CEO, Aldo Maria Vigevani commented that the new hotel "will allow us to create a magical enchanted kingdom of hotellerie, where magicians, elves, talking trees and magical creatures will make the little guests and their families stay with a fairy and charming atmosphere".

The hotel, which will be located near to the existing onsite accommodation offerings, will offer a total variation of three different themed rooms for guests to choose from; Enchanted Forest, Magic Crystal and Great Magician.

Not exactly new news. Only thing that I think is newly announced is the project is costing £20 million. Interesting to note that occupancy is over 80% for all the gardaland hotels
