Looks great, and I can see lots of quirky little details in the background! Is chocolate still being put into the room like it used to be?

Uhhh... So they removed the attributes that made it into a themed suite and replaced them with a Travelodge colour scheme and, what? Furnishings that look like someone has gone to town on the Ikea "Oak" furniture?

Almost all of the suite rooms are extremely tired and need work done to them, but this is really bad, at least in my opinion.

There’s also now a video showing off the new Chocolate Room, with all of the cool little details that the room has on display:

For what it’s worth I quite like it.

I never really understood the previous incarnation and the link between a railway carriage and chocolate? Seemed odd to me and was looking quite outdated in design.

The new look seems like a more modern take on the original Cadbury’s room from the 90s.

Oh wow I love the update on the chocolate room, I agree the train carriage style was a little odd and I think it definitely needed modernising.

I've noticed that a few of the new / refurbished suites aren't a patch on the originals, particularly the Coca~Cola suite which looks horrendously bland. I always wanted to stay in the original but the new one not at all, the same can be said for the Chocolate Suite. Points for them for refurbishing but unfortunately it still goes back to if its not broke don't fix it, just renovate it. If you look at the Splish Splash Room and the Big Pyjama Room compared to the newer Chocolate or Princess room you can see a huge difference in quality and its definitely not for the better. They look like a bog standard room you could create from Ikea, not a themed suite.

I’ll admit I thought that the train carriage style was quite cute, and I did like the look of the chocolate train-style theme, but I do like the new style too, and I also think @AT86 makes a good point with regard to it almost harkening back to the hotel’s opening years.

Rather fitting, given that the hotel actually turns 25 this year!

Maybe it’s a matter of opinion with this one, as I do prefer the modern simpler designs. As it’s somewhere I want to relax, I don’t think too busy is a good thing. So I see it as a improvement for myself.

My only gripes with the newer designs is the lack of themed flooring and air conditioning systems (which have been installed in all of the refurbished standard rooms).

I like the look of both. The previous designs do look outdated so they needed a refresh.

It's also important to remember how much they are charging for these rooms. I just can't see how they've come up with this for such a price tag.

In those two photos compared, the new ones look incredibly bland and boring. The old one isnt that much a flattering photo but still looks better to me. Not just some generic wallpaper and signs you're paying for.

With the exception of the boring floor I prefer the newer Coca Cola room to the older one, but I do prefer the older chocolate room to the newer one (not convinced screwing drain pipes to the ceiling classes as theming).

There will be an in-room vending machine somewhere!

Oh wow; so there’s quite a bit of chocolate on offer, then!

    I bet it’s £10 per bar.

Vending machine is probably the wrong term. It'll just be a box with a knob to turn which drops a chocolate out and I expect it'll only be a tubs worth if it's anything like it used to be.

I’d personally argue that a tub’s worth of chocolate is still an awful lot of chocolate for an average family, especially considering that you can ring down to reception and ask for more if you want more!

And doubtless find the cost added to your check-out room account. It's the Merlin way.

This photo is from Sep 2020. I don’t think they are particularly skimping on the chocolate handouts in this room. Not that it would make sense for them to do so, this will cost the park pennies.
