General Hotel Discussion

Why don't people just carry ID around with them? I've never understood why this is so hard.

I try and carry my passport when I can, but I gotta admit it's annoying as hell if I get ID'd when I forget.

Because for some people, the only ID they have is their passport, fancy carrying that around with you all day every day?

Believe they are £50 now, and not everyone can apply for a provisional.

Gov.UK said:
To get your first provisional driving licence online for a car, motorcycle or moped you must:
  • pay £34 by MasterCard, Visa, Electron, Maestro or Delta debit or credit card

The Guardian said:
The cost-cutting measure, which will see the price of a provisional licence fall to £34 from £50, was announced by ministers, who estimated it would save all new drivers in the region of £80m over the next decade.

Other cuts coming into effect on 31 October include the costs of renewing a licence online every 10 years, reduced from £20 to £14, and a tachograph card used by businesses to monitor how far staff drive, which will fall from £38 to £32.

Im almost 30 but still look very young (I have great moisturiser) - and would never even dare go anywhere without ID.

Its not a new thing, if you look young bring ID.

But the bars in the resort have always been crap, the staff hate customers, the managers hate staff. They just breed a dull atmosphere.

Citizen cards are always hit or miss with places that require ID. Some places really don't like using them and don't accept them as a true form of ID, despite the backing it may have.

Buying a provisional licence is easiest. Sure it's £34 but it's cheaper losing that rather than your passport.

I always have my driving licence on me, its far easier to have it than get IDed and not have any ID.

Anyway on Sunday night I didn't get IDed in either of the bars. I was actually quite shocked to see 4 (yeah FOUR!) staff behind the bar in Dragon Bar on Sunday night, compared to the usual one or two you usually get.

If I ran the hotels and bars I would have 4 or 5 staff behind Dragon bar on busy nights, and always have the 2nd bar open during weekends and summer holidays. Its been known in the past for the 2nd bar to open to get rid of a queue and then it closes again. Surely people will drink more (and buy more snacks) if they see no queue than seeing a queue).

Splash on the other hand often has enough staff serving, but that doesn't mean you will get served quickly, they are often slow and seem to go out of there way to take as long as possible to pour your drink. Of course not all the staff are the same and you do find some good staff in Splash, but on most of my visits that it usually the case.

I don't know why they don't do what most hotels with bars do, have bar staff there to a set time, eg 2am. Then if you want a drink after that one of the reception staff/security staff will make it for you. And if its a busy night and the bar is still busy at 2am just keep the staff or even just a manager there later. I can kind of understand in ATH about not drinking late as the rooms are all close by, but Splash there is no reason for it.

Christmas prep is happening within the hotels

ATH looks lovely! Not too sure about that Christmas tree on top of Splash, it looks more like a hat for the hotel! :p

ATH always looks lovely during Christmas at night, even the back usually has lights on it. Splash on the other hand doesn't look so nice, but I guess its hard to make a tropical hotel look Christmasy!
