Heide Park

B&M of late seem to be more concerned with spangly new trains and water splashes. I do still like B&M and they along with Intamin are leagues ahead of the rest but when they first came on the scene, they completely rewrote the rule book. The problem is that they've been following that rule book to the letter ever since.

Well not really, they adapted what had gone before and made it better. Taking the suspended and making it the inverter, mastering the sit down, improving on the flyer and taking what Baco did wrong and making the wing-rider is the key to B&M's success, not throwing away the rule book, they just made their own rules.

I do take your point though about spangly new trains but for me thats the beauty of B&M, their looks sell the ride, just looking at the trains shows just how functional they are and now nothing is left to chance. Almost like ride art deco and it's something you don't get with many other rollercoaster manufacturers.

As for a Heide wing-rider (if true). I'm a tad dissappointed, because it feels like it's just running to catch up with Thorpe and Gardaland.

I was told Oz'Iris was "up there with Nemesis" in terms of forcefulness and general intensity, based on peoples rides earlier in the season - but it was anything but.

Rule one should never take other peoples opinions as gospel. ;)

Re: Heide Park, Germany

I was shocked as to how short the ride is; I guess we've been lucky with rides such as Sheikra and the others. The theming is amazing though; I wish they showed the walk up to, and more of, the station.

Re: Heide Park, Germany

I've just checked out more pictures of Krake.

I think the theming and general surround is amazing, I do have one issue with this ride though.

The actual "mouth" looks pretty rubbish from the side, and it reminded me a film I don't intend to watch called "Teeth"....

Amazing film... WATCH IT :-X

Re: Heide Park, Germany

I think it's odd that the boards above the sea monster are perfectly intact, even though there's a gigantic creature inside the ship. And why aren't there any masts or planks of wood sticking out from where the mouth of the creature is?

Re: Heide Park, Germany

The drop zone theming is good. The queue is dreadful, though... and the station interior is nothing special.

:)

Re: Heide Park, Germany

I was a little apprehensive at pointing out a flaw there, not only because to be fair much effort has gone into it, which is good to see, but that it's a fairly liked ride.

Actually, it annoyed me that the side view looked like they'd taken a huge joke shop style fanged gob and UHU'd it to the back of the ship, as Al says, with no wood splinters or anything lol!

I think when it is your main piece of theme, and kinda, the whole idea of the ride, you'd want to get that bit spot on and build around it. I never look at blivvy's hole and think, oh yeah, that looks a bit naff and cheap.

Seems a shame given the effort around it, but maybe this IS one of those times where enthusiast hat picks out something the GP probably haven't noticed or really don't care about.

Of course, being Europeans, I might have happened upon some deliberate, more liberated nods to theming shall we say.

(Not mentioning the "tentacles"...)

Nothing would surprise me having watched a vid on BonBonLand or whatever it's called earlier ;D

I agree, the seal (or lack of it) around the mouthpiece makes it look completely detached. Shame really.

Re: Heide Park, Germany

Yes it's a shame as otherwise it's a really awesome looking set piece. As it is it kind of nags at my brain every time I see it.

But credit where credit's due for Merlin where Krake is concerned they did go back and add this missing feature despite it not being ready for the first year:

For those that don't know they started building the ship during its original construction but due to a very harsh winter and apparently an error with clearance they dismantled it and repositioned the mouth next to the drop for the first year of operation.

and from every other angle it looks Awesome!

Re: Heide Park, Germany

It does look better from the other angles.

B&Q and some broken planks of wood would sort that front out lol!!

I'd forgotten that they originally had to place it in the water, I wondered why I didn't recognise that earlier photo.

It looks pretty decent with the ice when it's in the water too!! If only they could just add a bit more

Re: Heide Park, Germany

I have to be honest and say that when I rode it in 2011 it was a pretty awesome looking ride.

The theming, however simple worked and looked good. The mouth was there and I loved that you could see all of the water effect in full swing.

As good as this looks, I think it looked better before they added the ship. The ship doesn't look big enough or realistic at all and needs to be more spread out, which would ruin the point of the splash down. I think it's a good concept, but one that could have been pulled off better. I like the station building, it looks pretty good. The rest of the ride and it's queue line do however leave a lot to be desired.

Re: Heide Park, Germany

Has anybody else seen the rumours of a B&M wing coaster for 2014?

The Heide Park 2014 will feature its own interpretation of the "winged" roller coaster in the subject area of Transylvania. Here, the plant will reach a similar size as the prototype of Gardaland. Construction work on a site near the bobsled has already begun.

There's been a bit of fantasising going on over at phantasialnd-fans.de:
  1. mandatory start to lift with the Swarm. (This element has been an official name?)
  2. Immelmann
  3. Giant Flatspin
  4. established Helix .... for me but also an Inclined Loop (google offers "laid down" as an alternate translation for "aufgestellte", which has been translated as "established" here :p )
  5. Zero-G Roll
  6. Speed Curve
  7. Tunnel
  8. Flatspin (7.1)

If this is confirmed, it adds Heide onto the list of european parks to visit next year! :p

Re: Heide Park, Germany

Wow, what a horrendous, uninspiring layout. Absolutely nothing that hasn't been done before on a wing-rider. But, at least it doesn't have the standard wing-rider drop.

Re: Heide Park, Germany

What a rubbish layout.

That looks even shorter and more boring than Swarm. :(

Re: Heide Park, Germany

Hahaha, brilliant! Looks like they spent about 5 minutes thinking that up! xD

I didn't think it'd be possible to make a layout that's less inspiring than Swarm's but it seems they've gone all out to do just that! Heck, the Swarm looks good compared to this!

Europa Park and Phantasialand must be seriously concerned about this! I can only hope this gets the same level of theming and landscaping as Raptor to help it out a bit.

Re: Heide Park, Germany

I sense that the fact it's located on a hill might have had a big say in the layout design...

Still not the most imaginative mind, but I would guess that the location was a big deciding factor...

Of course, there's no actual source for the image, so it could just be made-up...

Re: Heide Park, Germany

So that layout, basically the same elements as The Swarm on replace the inverted drop with a normal drop and an immelmann. I hope that isn't the final layout, it looks rather boring.

:)
