Hotels General Discussion

I don’t know any other Theme park built into a mossy forest, within a dreary and rainy climate that reaches below minus?

Europa-Park is located with the Black Forest region of Germany, where it regularly drops below 0° C.

Efteling is also located on the outskirts of a forest, with similar climate to the UK and the temperature regularly drops below 0° C.

Parc Asterix is located in the middle of a forest, with very similar climate to the UK and wet / damp conditions, and the temperature regularly drops below 0° C.

These are just three examples in Europe. There are parks, throughout the world, built in areas with far worse and extreme environments and weather than Alton Towers.

Ocean Park Hong Kong, Hong Kong Disneyland and Universal Studios Singapore, for example, experience heavy rainfall and occasional typhoons during monsoon season (May - September). The theming in these parks is always considered to be world class, is regularly maintained and is designed to withstand extreme weathering and potential destruction.

Weather is not an excuse for poor maintenance.

We've had alot of rain this year aswell in fairness, but being the main centrepiece of the entrance, it needs to be looked after.

Just because it's built near some trees, doesn't excuse them for leaving it to rot to that extent, it's certainly not the first impression you want to give your customers.
Also if you know the main centrepiece is made from something too difficult to maintain then switch it for something easier to clean.

Quick question about the hotels if you're staying in a pod is there any where to leave luggage?

I don't drive and everytime I've tried to use the lockers in the park I have a nightmare with them!

You should be able to leave them at reception - or at least, you can if it's ATH/Splash. I'd imagine there's a similar facility for the Pods at the respective check-in.

I believe there actually is not a facility for the pods.

I'm not sure if you can turn up to one of the other accommodation and use their storage room, though. The language on the website seems to suggest not, but is not entirely clear.

Just walk in to ATH say you are staying in the hotel tonight and can they look after your bag until check in time. I wouldn’t see this as a problem

I'm sure others with have seen/ posted this elsewhere, but it seems a room in ATH for fireworks would currently set you back more than a park view room at the Grand Helios on opening day...

I want to make it very clear before my next comment. I think Towers accommodation is waaaaaaay overpriced for the quality, this is in no way a defence….

But comparing hotel prices in different countries is pointless, different markets with different competing market forces (UK in general has expensive hotel rates and Orlando has often depressed hotel rates because of the sheer volume of accommodation in the area).

But just to reiterate even then Towers is stupidly over priced.

I think I want to start using your travel agent!

US hotels are always waaaaaaay more than UK equivalents.
