Kennywood: 2019 S&S Coaster - Steel Curtain

What an absolutely awful investment this has been, who ever thought it was a good idea to buy from S&S? Swear they get more wrong that right!

Had a feeling this would be a coaster I would get spited by this summer. Will be interesting to see what the modifications are, perhaps it will eventually involve a bulldozer?

How is a traditional chain hill rollercoaster so temperamental.

I visited in June 2019 and they'd still not finished building the thing.
Opened late in the 2019 season.
It didn't operate at all in 2020.
Been on and off since 2021 until it just stopped opening the middle of last season.

Not even sure if they ever managed to operate it with 2 trains.

Still at least the renovated Turtle Chase is opening.

Something seemed overly complicated about the whole thing when standing in the air gates. The restraint lock/unlock mechanism... the incredibly slow lift hill transition...

It's a shame really because it's a top 20 coaster for me. If the track and train had been done by Vekoma it'd be serving them extremely well.

Kennywood (and the other Parques Reunidos properties in the US) to be acquired by Herschend.

Bit of a surprise! It makes a lot of sense though, considering how administratively separate Palace Entertainment is from the rest of Parques Reunidos.

Big news, Dutch Wonderland, and Lake Compounce now under Herschend ownership.

All a decent way apart from each other so no overlap.

Be interesting to see how long before they start to make changes, I visited Kentucky Kingdom in 2022 and they'd made some smaller changes (cinnamon bread!) but it's only this year they've made a big change with the new themed area.

Enjoyed Kennywood loads when I visited 2019, amazing collection of wooden coasters, and Phantoms Revenge! Steel Curtain was still under construction then sadly.

Loads of charm already which I can be see being added to, good collection of rides as well. Be interesting to see what they'll think about Steel Curtain after 6 years of issues.

That makes sense, when news broke that Parques Reunidos were looking to offload their US parks it was Herschend that came to mind as a group who may wish to aquire them.

Herschend are generally a good operator, so hopefully this bodes well for Kennywood!
