Kings Dominion: General Discussion

Apparently Dale Earnhardt Snr's widow wanted more money than they wanted to pay for the rights, with Intimidator being a Dale IP rather than NASCAR in general. Still one of the most beloved drivers ever in the sport so it is a really strong IP to lose.
You say that, although when riding or at the park it doesn't really look like an IP at all!

Hopefully Kings Dominion come up with something far better than Thunder Striker for I305. I'd imagine they'll still keep a 305 element to the name, as that is iconic.

The park are planning an announcement on July 31st with more details of the coaster.
That's good. I've seen photos of the construction so glad it's underway as I'm hopefully visiting next year.

Hope with the Cedar Fair/Six Flags merger the new super chain takes on the Cedar Fair method of having the new coasters actually open at the start of the season. I missed out on Dr Diabolical and Aquaman Powerwave 2 years ago when I visited, and this year the coasters at Six Flags Great Adventure and Over Georgia still haven't opened their new for 2024 coasters. Whilst TT2 and the Dorney Park dive machine opened with the parks in the spring.

I think P305 should be themed to a fighter jet

Probably the closest a human could get to experiencing that sensation in a healthy safe way, so feels on brand for the ride experience

Would look even more intimidating with white supports and a dark grey track, with an aircraft depot themed station and maybe some near misses that are avoided by the quick transitions, like rock work and valleys

I've got to say that the new Jungle X-Pedition area at Kings Dominion, where you will find Tumbili and where Rapterra is being built, looks fantastic! Far better than any themed area at Alton Towers with lots of nice details, a great food outlet, themed audio and Rapterra is really going to add to it, flying over the areas main pathways. Legacy Cedar Fair parks have really upped their game with their new themed areas in recent years and it is great to see!

On the flip side, Project 305 (formerly Intimidator 305) is looking a bit of a mess. I'm hoping that it will get some work, including another new name, to maybe tie it in with Flight of Fear so they can have one coherent mini-area in that part of the park. And give it a much needed re-paint!

Well it looks like the god awful name of Project 305 is to be no more:

Makes sense, it all felt a bit lost in that area of the park when I was there. I suspect it was all very last minute removing the original IP, hence this “project” name.

It will be interesting to see what the new name and theme is. They are currently re-painting the supports black and the track orange.

Not a fan of the name at all, it's far too similar to Pantheon for a start.

I was hoping that they might make this and Flight of Fear their own small themed area (like they have done with Onion at KI) as opposed to making it a part of Jungle X-Pedition. I305 felt iconic, this doesn't really, which is a shame as it's an epic coaster.

It will always be i305, pantherian sounds like something chessington would come up with,

Seems KD really want to expand jungle X.

I never understood the IP with i305, can someone explain? I understand it’s Dale Ernhardt’s nickname, but can the word intimidator actually be trademarked as only being associated with him?

Honestly would have even preferred a generic name like velocity or something, to keep the true essence of the ride

I can't say that I am a fan of the colour.

It's a shame they couldn't have a custom shell design, but the colours will contrast nicely against the track at least.
