Kolmården: General Discussion

Sorry to bump this thread - I will be visiting kolmården next Thursday but will only have about 5 hours in the park. Most of this time will probably be wildfire rerides - any must see attractions in the park I should also try and visit? The cabel car safari also sounds pretty good

@Doublethink The Cable Car Safari is a must and there's also 2 kiddie creds there as well. I say also take your time and explore the place :)

Cheers. I wasn't quite happy with things so canceled one day of my hostel in Gothenberg and am going to get a full 10-8 on park. It has the cost of sleeping on an overnight train but should give me a much more satisfying day!

Well I'm on my way to park, just seen a kolmården ride opp get onto my bus so I assume I'm on the right one! Getting here has been a bit of an adventure but can't wait to try out wildfire and see what looks like an amazing park!

I used the app for the bus company OTG which worked fine its basicly return £14 from norrköping Station. The 433 runs every 30 mins and goes back well after park close at 8. I think the only other option is a pre loaded travel card. The app wasn't easy to use. You need to get the regional ticket.

Also praise the coaster gods for wildfire will be opening today! Waiting for non hotel guest opening outside at the moment. There are automatic vending machines for tickets by the main entrance if you arive before park open.

My train will arrive into Kolmården from Stockholm. So will need to get the bus from the station to the Zoo.

My onward train to Gothenburg will be from Norrköping, so will take the bus to there.

Was hoping they took card on the bus. I’ve watched the TPWW travel vlogs, but he doesn’t mention payment methods on the bus.

Is the £14 regional ticket good for use all day?

I got it as two singles as its about 50p cheeper than the day ticket but its good all day as far as I'm aware.

Oh my god. Wildfire, instant no 1. Beating out mako. Utterly berserk ride with crazy airtime. The pull over on the back is brutal and some fantastic airtime where ever you sit. Brilliant reride policy here, already on 6 rides in 30 mins. I need a breather!

Eddit 2: I feel embarrassed for Chessington
This is everything that park should be.

Not that Chessington deserves defense against such a claim, but from my recollection of Kolmarden the two parks aren't exactly comparable. One's a tiny zoo turned theme park that's a shadow of what it was even 8 years ago, and the other is still a vast zoo built over a series of very steep hills. It just happens to have a cable car safari ride, a theme park style IP-based kids' area, and a chuffing huge RMC tucked away in a corner.

The only realistic similarity is they've shared a set of animals.

Visited a very quiet Kolmården last Friday as part a trip to Sweden also taking in Gröna Lund & Liseberg.

We took an early train over from Stockholm and then caught the bus from the station to the Zoo, with the added bonus that we got a free bus-ride as the driver’s card reader wasn’t working.

We collected our free tickets from guest services courtesy of RCCGB membership, deposited our bags in the lockers by the entrance and set off for the long walk to Wildfire.

Apart from a couple of other lads, we were the only two people who must have been interested in riding the coaster that day.

The staff were great and multiple re-rides were had throughout the day. I’ve never been on a coaster before where I’ve actually had to put my hand up to ask to be let off! It was that quiet I think we could have easily ridden on every dispatch of the day.

In terms of the ride, I thought it was fantastic and more comfortable than Untamed (the only other RMC I have ridden) with less violent ejector airtime.

The rest of the park was also great especially the cable car safari. We ate in the buffet restaurant, which offered good value for unlimited food and drinks (including beer)

At the end of the day to took the bus to Norrköping for our onward train journey to Gothenburg.

Quite possibly one of the best POV's of any ride. Up until now, I don't recall any of them doing the views from Wildfire the justice they deserve, but this really hammers home how impressive the visuals are whilst riding:

Aside from the mine train at Ocean Park, this clearly has some of the best visuals for any coaster.

If anything, it's a little too scenic for the size of ride that they built there and it's no wonder why they had to fight so hard to keep it.

Hi guys. Hope you're all well.

I have a visit to Kolmarden coming up and naturally I plan to ride Wildfire. I was wondering if anyone knew what the loose items procedures are and whether there are baggage areas in the station. Probably a good idea to check whether it's a good idea to have a packed backpack with me in the queue.

Also, any other advice about the park/ride as a whole is greatly appreciated (and yes, I'm aware it's the summer holidays in Sweden so I expect queues).

My only visit (to date) was back in 2016 so my knowledge is not the most up to date but as I remember it, queues were not really an issue despite it being fairly busy - the zoo side of things dominates and that attracts mainly families so there was a longer wait for the 2 family coasters than Wildfire. I don't remember bags being a problem so I can only assume it was a fairly standard "leave 'em on offload" situation (otherwise it would have left more of an impression)

Kolmarden is very much a zoo with a few rides dotted about, rather than a theme park & zoo. The safari skyride is worth doing but other than that and the coasters I don't think we did any other rides on our visit. Getting round the zoo took a huge chunk of the day though - it's enormous and the terrain is pretty hilly so there's quite a bit of walking involved. Related - there's an escalator on the left near the entrance, we skipped it to avoid queueing for it but almost immediately regretted doing so.

Hi John

Thanks for your reply. That's very helpful actually and a good insight into the park. I'm naturally visiting for Wildfire, but I'm undecided how much time I plan to spend in the zoo (I might go on some little hikes outside of the park when I'm done with the coaster and skyride).

Out of interest, what time of year did you visit?

We went just over six years ago. Despite all the hills, it was worth it. The setting in which it's situated is frankly stunning, too.
