Legoland Windsor

Must admit, since they brought in the barriers on the car park, it's a nightmare getting out, used to be fine. plus the staff letting 5 cars from one way out then 15 out from the other...

The barriers have certainly congested things somewhat - exiting the park is nowhere near as easy as it used to be - but I wouldn't rate the problem anywhere near as bad as that at Thorpe or Chessington (North Car Park in particular).

Thorpe is a pain to get out of, even on moderate days, and Chessington's North Car Park, with its single, unmanned barrier (which often has a car parked in front of it, unable to exit because they didn't buy a ticket, or are unable to use the barcode reader, and trying unsuccessfully to contact someone with the intercom) is just dire.

As for the staff, they do often get it right, though admittedly not always.

Well when we visited, used online ticketing, and got car park ticket then, so we walked past the queue to join a queue to join a queue to join a queue...

and just joined a queue to join a queue and avoided the last queue by going the other way.

Only to find the barriers were up and the staff sat there not doing anything.

In what way?

as in it gives you an idea of
A, How much planning permission they have to get, And
B, the new attraction for 2013 which is a redevelopment of duplo land.

I visited Legoland Windsor for the first time since I was little the other day. Regardless of how Merlin it had become I'd honestly say that it was a really nice visit! Atlantis is worth the trip alone!

From Themeparks-UK:

New for 2013: Duplo Valley - Splash & Play
Legoland Windsor will rename and extend Duplo Land as Duplo Valley for 2013, including adding new attractions Brickville, Duplo Splash Safari and Duplo Drench Towers, and enlarging the existing Duplo Theatre.

Brickville will be a dry play area comprising Duplo scenes and characters to create a mini town. Duplo Splash Safari will be a wet play area with interactive water features comprising zoo animal structures. Duplo Drench Towers will be a water play area with interactive climbing frame, watergun platforms and water slides.

Several existing attractions within the current Duplo Land including Duplo Train (now Brickville Express), Chopper Squadron and Fairy Tale Brook will remain alongside a larger Duplo Theatre (now Duplo Puppet Theatre). However, other existing attractions such as Waterworks, Playtown and Mole-in-One mini golf will be removed.

Brickville - There’s plenty of dry fun in Brickville where the landscape is designed for exploring and imaginative play. Children can climb around a village full of bright Duplo buildings fitted with climbing frames and slides. From the Caveman’s House to the Town Garage, there’s plenty of surprises to discover and lots of appealing Duplo characters to meet, including curious dinosaurs and colourful clowns.

Duplo Splash Safari - The ultimate wet play environment for little ones. Toddlers can safely splash around amongst a menagerie of Duplo animal friends - from lions and giraffes, to zebras and elephants.

Duplo Drench Towers - High at the top of the Valley sits the Duplo Drench Towers - the largest water structure in the UK especially designed for maximum soaking. Older kids will love dodging the outsized tipping brick and whizzing down the six River Rapids splashtastic water slides in head to head competition.

They've clearly not found enough ways to soak guests, have they? :p Anyway, the plans look good and I love all of the sketches (they interest me more than the rides, tbh :p ). Also, Duplo ftw! :D

I have a suspicion that they are hoping this will become Leogland Windsor's Waterpark. The plans for the water fortress are a lot like the current Waterpaks. When you also consider that Extreme Team Challenge will be part of this area the only thing it is lacking is a pool.

Maybe they plan to further expand it in the future then make the whole area its own attraction a bit like the one at California. Although I suspect it's more likely they've decided our weather doesn't justify a Waterpark and so instead are making Duplo Land a bathing suit zone for young kids.

Overall it looks like a good addition.

You could be onto something there Tim, particularly as the plans say 'Duplo waterpark' on the bottom of them as opposed to 'Duplo Valley' or anything similar.

They could always do a indoor water park , then gate in this section as a outdoor part. I'm sure they could manage if they moved the road over a bit, and it would give another reason for people to use the hotel during the closed season

I posted this morning about an update from Screamscape and Orlando Theme Park that was about a 4D film coming to the two US Legoland Parks. Here's the original post:

New 4-D Movie coming to LEGOLAND This Spring

Many rumors floating around the web state that quite a few new attractions should make their way into LEGOLAND Florida in 2013, but now there is one addition confirmed to be coming soon: a new 4-D movie.

This news comes directly from the latest edition of the free LEGO Club Magazine, which has an ad for both LEGOLAND Florida and California. The ad includes the Star Wars Miniland (which opened in 2012 in both parks) and the announcement of a new 4-D movie (which will obviously be coming to both parks, as the insert doesn't specify the park). This movie will be based on one of the newest LEGO themes known as "Legends of Chima." This new addition will debut this spring.

We expect an official announcement coming from LEGOLAND Florida in the next few weeks.

Well I've just been told that the attraction will also be arriving at our park in Windsor as well for the 2013 season. Anyway, I don't think that info is on the web yet, but I trust the person and their source. :)

I thought this might be the case when you posted the news before. It would have been quite unusual for those two parks to get the new movie and not the others, especially as no translation is needed.

I thought that it was just something exclusive for the American parks, but yeah, it seems logical that the other parks would get this too. It sounds like an interesting theme and I'm glad that it won't be IP based (ignoring the central Lego theme :p ) or something recycled somewhere else, as these are always usually the reason why I don't bother with 4D cinema attractions.

:)

Edit: I've had a press release for the attraction shared with me, so hereit is! :)

The one 4D film I saw at Legoland was really good, and Lego is great for 3D films as there is so much you can do to it to make it jump out at you, which alot of other films cant do.

Its going to be a relatively quiet year for Legoland this year hopefully something exciting will come next year if the 3 year cycle is anything to go by!

I don't know that a massive, largest-in-UK water play structure, new surrounding area, new younger water-play area, new Duplo themed dry play area, full revamp of a very popular original ride, new internally produced 4D show and expansion to the very popular Star Wars Miniland Experience really counts as a 'relatively quiet year' ;).
