Liseberg: General Discussion

Its nothing short of perfect... By the looks of the pov.

Seriously considering the long journey to get on this!

You wouldn't be alone in that thought!

Imagine something like this in Dark Forest to replace Rita… except with proper planning, theming and a layout that makes use of the surrounding terrain. The cross Valley Woodie would still be nice, but i'd be happy to settle for something like this!!

As i'm sure we all agree, Intamin Accelerators are soooooo Mid-200's! They need to get with the Mack.

That station reminds me a bit of the Hulk at IoA. But that is an amazing POV, sets the standard for sit-down coasters!

I am not jealous of all those people who have ridden Helix today!

Nope, not at all. Can summer be here soon so I can ride this amazing coaster! :)

TPR also uploaded a video of Helix, and it looks much slower there. (Probably because of a little thing called Frames Per Second.)

But wow, I will now proclaim this the Maverick Killer. Everything about it just makes sense, and I love that's its on a hill. In fact it kinda reminds me of a mash up of Boulder Dash and Wild Eagle, with a sprinkle of blue fire as well.

I'm sorry but this just totally shames Alton Towers and Merlin.

When they are coming up with slogans etc based on ripping off Oblivion's unique theme, and you have Liseberg building this?

Indefensible.

Thats the sort of thing people were saying about other companies when Alton was building Oblivion. Rather ironic hu?! :/

Based on a few peoples Facebook status's who have ridden it, the reviews are good but not astounding. Many labeling a nice family-thrill coaster.

From what I've seen it is a brilliant coaster but it's not really intense. So basically a bigger and more fun Blue Fire! Desperate to get on it later this year!

:)

The ride looks great but if Towers built something with the ikea style of theming this ride has the geeks would be moaning.

Which is exactly how many think of Blue Fire...

A lot of people bemoaning the lack of intensity in the launches too, but it's all an opinion game, as intensity to me does not a great coaster make, and in some cases can make a coaster awful (Tatsu)...

From the airtime available on Alpina Blitz though, this should at least fulfil that criteria, and can hopefully provide the same level of ride quality and comfort as both that and Blue Fire...

That in itself, will make this ride fantastic... Plus the accessibility for a large range of riders will hopefully make other parks sit up and take notice of Mack's ability...

Right, because Towers have never done such original rides like this before and Nemesis, Oblivion, Air, Thirteen, The Smiler and Raptor are original concepts that Merlin/Tussauds have never dared to landscape or attempt, thematically.

Please, it's very easy to attack Merlin for just about anything, a city park doing Helix doesn't immediately grab as something to bash Merlin with.

If I remember correctly, that is exactly how Blue Fire was initially received from its first riders. This fills me with an amazing amount of belief that Helix is going to be fantastic then.

I wasn't discussing what Alton Towers WAS for those who seem to suddenly have forgotten all the threads dedicated to the poor Merlin standards.

Honestly, standards people, standards.

Nemesis is phenomenal, Oblivion is a masterpiece. It ends there.

I love Towers, I love The Smiler, but an independent park like Liseberg have embarrassed Merlin here. Concrete cattle pen or that modernist station?

Sorry, Helix just oozes a level of class and sophistication that arguably Towers haven't seen since Oblivion. Merlin COULD achieve this quite easily but they choose not to.

And as for using the Oblivion logo/style I find that utterly reprehensible and is indicative of a creatively bereft corporate attitude towards anything they can possibly squeeze funds out for minimal input.

McMerlin.

The helix station looks underwhelming to me, very IKEA. But the ride looks like the star of the show anyway which is the main thing.

Totally agree with Benzin here. Intensity isn't everything. A ride that can accommodate more guests rather than only those who're in to getting their faces ripped off can be just as good overall. The way this glides through elements, speeds up, flies through the inversions and kicks the back over the hills is a far more interesting and varied experience to simply inverting in a small space and being pressed into your seat for a few minutes. I can ride this with more people which is a far greater plus point.

The theming isn't great, but this was never about that anyway; it's a terrain coaster in some trees. What's there is only to give it an identity, not turn it into a true theme park experience - thankfully something Liseberg haven't pretended it is, unlike other parks and their recent additions.

Look at Blue Fire too. Blue Fire's theming doesn't really extend further than the indoor section and the rocks around the main ride area. Helix has real terrain, trees and plants to interact with, which adds to the ride in a different way than how a fully themed experience would.

Gimmick-free goodness makes a change, tbh. :)

Fair enough, it isn't that immersively themed, but I would much prefer this style of decoration to that of the smiler, which frankly looks horrific. It appears clean, well designed and interactive and I think that is much better than concrete and lazy theming.

Modernist station which looks like it belongs to a train station, and not a theme park, which'll look like Oblivions "modernist" style eventually.

Are we saying the entire of The Smilers indoor queue section to be awful then? On the same scale - queuing up the steps will be similar to the queue for Helix.

This looks far more pleasant than any of The Smiler's queue:
