M&D's: General Discussion

Speaking of what will take Tornado's spot, if M&D's have money lying around (less likely than the London Resort getting built) I have a hunch that a RMC Raptor ride might be a good shout as a clone would easily fit in Tornado's footprint.

Granted it's unlikely but it would seem likely if they cared about running the park, though it would be our typical British luck that out of all the places to get a RMC, the first to be build would end up at the most hated UK park! :p

With this new name, and seemingly new brand (I thought the company was known as Lochview Park or something now?), they may be wanting to form a new identity for themselves, so nothing is necessarily out of the question!
 
Ok, I know I can't confirm or deny this though by a serious hunch, I think I'm starting to see what the owners plan is now...

They'll be embracing the full on tacky permanent fairground which I suspect many of the cynics in here suspected, however what is worse that it seems increasingly likely that with the sell of Tornado and other M&D's owned attractions that aren't tied down, they seem more certain to be using other showman's attractions to fill the line up and I think I know why for good reason...

If you remember the Tsunami incident in which the Taylors had to pay out for damages, it seems that if an incident were to happen on these other rides like Tsunami which aren't owned by the park, they can easily pass the buck on to the showman who owns said ride and claim it's their responsibility.

While technically this would be true that would avoid them paying a penny, it just means they'll throw that poor individual under the bus. Exploring every loophole it seems yet I'm not surprised of such underhand tactics.

It seems the younger generation can't manage the park like the older generation, they probably couldn't even mismanage the park like the older generation for that would require a basic grasp of how a theme park works in order for them to screw it up.
 
It almost feels like they can't be bothered to do things properly, so they've found a way to absolve themselves of responsibility if there's another accident.
 
The model of getting showmen to provide attractions is widely used around the world. The most obvious being Wiener Prater with numerous other examples. Yes it could be to avoid risk but it's most likely to avoid having to have the capital expense of buying hardware.

It seems that, if you realise this or not, they are clearly playing up the blatant stereotype of being tight-fisted Scots which I can only assume from an English perspective on here must make many roll their eyes and for us north of the border, facepalm galore.
 
Double post but it seems M&D's are selling season tickets for 2021 but l can't believe the prices they are wanting for them! :eek:

I wouldn't even pay even a quarter for the money they want, no way they are worth that sort of money.
 
I don't want to go to M&Ds so wouldn't pay a penny for the privilege, but for those who do £99 is cheap for a year of visits to anything that'll entertain you for good chunks of time. Your perception of value has been broken by Merlins crap pricing structure.
 
For reference, Flambards down in Cornwall has an on-the-gate price of £21.95, and season tickets are £40. Pretty reasonable for a small regional park, and I'd consider getting a season ticket for the place if I still lived in Cornwall. £99 for M&D's, though? Not a flipping chance in hell.
 
Also, given that the headline ride has now gone (or at least has been removed from their website) what does M&D's have over a travelling funfair?

It's the Taylor family...money grabbing bastards the lot of them who I swear have horded a lot of money in all the years previously which all could've have been put to good use to the park if they even cared. It's just morbid curiosity at this place now...

Honestly...no idea. They are pretty much certain, at least in the short term, to have other folk's traveling rides were they'll likely embrace their travelling fairground look like never before and it wouldn't surprise me if they dropped the 'theme' park name all together which TBH would be at least be a start of knowing they are something they aren't...the other being that they are no good.

The "Theme Park" name is misused so much in the UK that any permanent funfair calls itself one regardless of any "theming", (looking at M&D's and Brean in particular).
And, for some reason, few question it.

I think the reasoning behind parks like these using the “theme park” suffix in their names was highlighted very well by John Wardley back in the 1980s; a lot of people class anywhere with rides that has one fixed admission price as a “theme park” (in M&D’s and Brean’s defence, they do both offer wristband options, which are technically POP in a sense), so probably won’t think anything of it.


To be honest, it doesn’t really bother me, personally.

And it was exactly that mind set that John Wardley set out to dispel by building Chessington World of Adventures and upgrading Alton Towers.

I would argue that £40 season ticket price is unsustainably cheap though. I know there are some more museum type places where they offer a years admission if you add 10% and gift aid to a ticket (Black Country Museum and Eden project both at least used to) but these are places with fairly fixed running costs and where a majority do only go once every few years.

A theme park season ticket usually means people will visit many times in a season, so really I think they should be priced at least at 4x the advance booking price. Some of the locals to Flambards must be getting a bargain really.

I think M&Ds probably are chancing it claiming the ticket is worth £99, but they are just trying to make the £59 look a better deal. I'm not sure how much a day ticket is there, but £59 for 3/4 visits would probably be about right?
 
Pleasurewood Hills charge £70 for a season pass, which is unlimited access. 10% food and drink discount and 10% discount in the shops. Plus 25% off for entry into certain other attractions...
 
Wonder if we'll see any of Global Events & Attractions Ltd rides appearing in the park when they aren't travelling?

The Funtime Rocket they've imported looks interesting!
 
In fairness, I think any new ride is a really good move for them considering what they’ve been through in the last year, and a Disk’O is not a bad choice for a flat, in my opinion!

Admittedly, I haven’t ridden one, but they look perfectly fun for what they are, if perhaps a little too spinny for my personal liking!
