M&D's Incident June 2016

Surely they cant say that. Surely the hse have condemned the ride until further notice. Look at the smiler, towers couldn't open it until the prohibition notice was lifted.

Even if they could open it, is it a good idea? At least out of respect, don't say that until all victims are out of critical conditions. And people accused towers of being focused on profit when they reopened the smiler.

Has the owner not taken notes regarding Smiler's incident last year? There's more chance of pigs flying then Tsunami opening again this year, if ever.

If M&D's goes under because of this, will this be the only time when we won't mind a UK park closing? Then again we lose our butt monkey, next to Merlin ofc.

as I'm able to access the newswires today, here is the latest report from Press Association Scotland, sent to media outlets at 13.48, 28th June 2016.

FOUR STILL IN HOSPITAL AS ROLLERCOASTER CRASH PROBE CONTINUES

Four people remain in hospital as the investigation into the cause of a theme park rollercoaster crash continues.
Two boys, aged 11 and 12, are still said to be in a serious condition with chest, leg and arm injuries at the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow after the Tsunami ride derailed and hit the ground at M&D's amusement park near Motherwell, North Lanarkshire, on Sunday afternoon.
Two others are in a stable condition in Glasgow hospitals.
In total, ten people were treated at hospitals in Glasgow and Lanarkshire after the crash but most have now been discharged.

The theme park remains closed, with police, engineers and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) inspecting the ride and the five gondolas that fell 20ft to the ground from the rollercoaster.
M&D's said the Tsunami ride had been closed on Saturday due to a "minor electrical fault" but was "fully operational" when the park opened on Sunday.
Director Douglas Taylor said his thoughts were with those injured and that he was "devastated" at the first such accident in 50 years in business.
The crashed carriages narrowly missed people on the ground below the Tsunami.
Amy Thomas said debris from the crash narrowly missed hitting her three-year-old son Dylan, who was playing on a toddlers' ride below the rollercoaster.
She told BBC Scotland: "The rollercoaster above went to turn a corner but it didn't quite make it, bits started cracking off and then it just fell. "The front carriage broke off and pieces were bouncing to the ground. Luckily there was a fence surrounding the toddlers' ride which bore the brunt of the falling debris, but pieces of it landed two feet from him."

Police, firefighters and paramedics rushed to the scene as several visitors posted images on social media appearing to show a mangled carriage on a pathway surrounded by dozens of people.
According to the M&D's website, the Tsunami can go at speeds of up to 40mph through corkscrew turns and loops.
It is not the first time the park has had problems with its rides, including Tsunami. In July 2011, nine passengers, including children, were stranded for more than eight hours when it came to a halt 60ft above the ground.
In March, eight people had to be rescued by firefighters in a cherry picker after the Tornado rollercoaster stopped working around 20ft off the ground.

Police Scotland says the theme park will remain closed while the joint investigation into the cause of the crash is carried out.
HSE principal inspector Barry Baker said: "We have brought HSE specialists in mechanical engineering to the site to begin the process of finding out what caused the gondolas to come off the rails.
"HSE will work very closely with colleagues in the police as the investigation unfolds."

This was sent out from BBC Scotland Newsgathering on 27th June with a rundown of those injured (reported at 16.49)
NOTE: some have since been discharged from hospital

INCIDENT AT M&Ds - STRATHCLYDE PARK MOTHERWELL
Their conditions are described below:
A 12 year old boy is currently in a serious condition with chest, abdominal and leg injuries at the Royal Hospital for Children.
An 11 year old boy is in serious condition currently receiving treatment for arm and hand injuries at the Royal Hospital for Children.
An 11 year old boy is in a stable condition currently receiving treatment for leg and head injuries at the Royal Hospital for Children.
A 14 year old girl is currently receiving treatment at Wishaw General Hospital for serious chest injuries.
A 16 year old boy is receiving treatment for an injury to his arm at Wishaw General Hospital.
A 13 year old boy is being checked at the Royal Hospital for Children and is stable.
An 11 year old boy has been kept in Wishaw General Hospital for observation and is stable.
A 19 year old man is being treated for a knee injury at Glasgow Royal Infirmary and is stable.
A 19 year old girl was treated for an injury to her wrist at Wishaw General Hospital and has since been released.

The thing is with all the other bad news around at the moment this story won't get anywhere near the amount of news coverage as The Smiler incident, even though it's arguably more serious. But 11 and 12 is no age at all, really hope they make a full recovery.

Actually, it could easily be as serious. At this stage after the smiler crash (a few days after), all we knew was that most victims had been treated at the scene, and others had serious leg/hand injuries.

even if you don't look at the less significant injuries, there are still three children with serious injuries that could potentially be life changing. We won't know yet, but it could potentially be worse than the smiler. Also, the age of the victims contributes to this. Its the fact that the majority of victims here are my age or younger (and even the adults on the ride being not much older). Its just thinking that someone who has had just as long or shorter life than me may be left with life changing injuries.

I really hope this isn't as serious as it sounds, but I'll be amazed if everyone manages to walk away from this with only minor injuries. I'm amazed there's no fatalities.

I do wish that media outlets would stop implying that lift hill evacuations and stranded riders are in any way comparable to an incident like this. Whilst it's inconvenient for everyone involved and some may find it mildly traumatic, no one's in any real danger and proper procedure is being followed. It's sort of irresponsible to suggest a few awkward evacuations prove a long history of unsafe operation.

I wonder how long it will be before the press start saying the issue it was having on Saturday was related to the crash on Sunday.

Can I make a request? Rather than constantly linking to tabloid scum with no explanation, can people just quote the relevant text please? That way we deprive them of the attention and advertising revenue they crave. ;)

Or possibly go through DoNotLink. Though just quoting the article would do.

According to the M&Ds website, its indoor sections opens tomorrow but its theme park will remain closed.

BBC also reporting three boys are still in Hospital, Two in a serious condition.

press release from Press Association Scotland, 30/06/2016. 15.20pm:

M&D's amusement park has partially re-opened following a rollercoaster crash which put 10 people in hospital.
The Tsunami ride derailed and hit the ground at the theme park at Strathclyde Country Park, Motherwell, North Lanarkshire, on Sunday afternoon.
Eight children and two adults were taken to hospital in the immediate aftermath of the incident.
Three children, two of them in a serious condition, remain in the care of medics.
The theme park was closed following the incident as police, engineers and the Health and Safety Executive inspected the ride and the five gondolas that plunged 20ft to the ground.
Indoor areas at the complex have now reopened but all the external areas and rides remain closed.
A spokeswoman for M&D's said: "M&D's indoor facilities reopened on Thursday June 30. This includes the family restaurant, Amazonia, Cosmic Bowl, Krazy Congo, Game Zone and Guiseppe's coffee shop.
"The theme park will remain closed until further notice."
M&D's has previously said the Tsunami ride had been closed on Saturday due to a "minor electrical fault" but was "fully operational" when the park opened on Sunday.
Director Douglas Taylor has said his thoughts are with those injured and that he was "devastated" at the first such accident in 50 years in business.
The incident sparked a large response from the police, firefighters and paramedics.
In a statement, Police Scotland said on Thursday: "The joint investigation into the circumstances of the incident at M&D's on Sunday June 26 is continuing, between Police Scotland and the Health and Safety Executive.
"We have been made aware that the owners/operators have taken the decision to open the indoor complex of the park, which includes the kids soft play area, bowling and Amazonia this morning.
"The rides and theme park area remain closed as investigations continue."
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde confirmed on Thursday that two boys, aged 11 and 12, remain in a serious condition at the city's Royal Hospital for Children.
One other child, aged 11, is in a stable condition at the same hospital.
Seven people have now been discharged from hospitals in Glasgow and Lanarkshire.

A minor electrical fault caused a train to detach itself completely from the track?

Even if that was plausible, why would you put that out there? It is possibly the least reassuring thing you could possibly say.

Might be reading it wrong, but I thought it said the minor electronic fault caused the loft hill stop earlier in the day. I have no idea how it could cause it to derail

I read it as it having had an unrelated minor electrical fault on the Saturday, but working fine on the Sunday up until the point where the integrity of the wheelset to train connections obviously became no longer fine.
