Major Ride Closures 2016

OK, I have some monumental information to share with my fellow towers times posters.

Before I share this jaw dropping news I must make absolutely clear that this has not been authorised by Alton Towers or any of their partners.

I do not work for Merlin Entertainments, nor do I have contacts who work at AT.

Unlike that Spin Doctor guy, I do not have a partner who works in the marketing department.

This information is not from a partners, brothers, sisters, plumbers, girlfriends, dog.

This information is derived from intuition only. Admittedly intuition that Sherlock Holmes himself would be proud of, but intuition nontheless.

Forum members who do not wish to spoil the mystery or who are of a nervous disposition should read no further.

I cannot be held responsible for the release of this data.

The reason for the 2016 ride closures is...

TO SAVE MONEY ;)

You do know which forum you're on... right.......?
Oops... lager?

Seriously though, my error... it's like going into a bar full of United fans in a Wednesday shirt (or vice versa). I'm not even a member of the other forum... just a reader.

Anyway, back on topic... hoping and believing that these closures are short term pain for long term gain. Can't wait to see what is planned for the next couple of years.

Is Charlie closing?? Also do we feel hex is a temporary closure or permanent. Same with sub terra?

Charlie will likely be rethemed, as there is a good chance the ip has run out. Hex will probably be temporary, but it wouldn't surprise me if they don't reopen it. mixed guesses on NST, I hope it reopens and I think it has a chance, but I really wouldn't hold your breath.

Not fussed on Charlie but when 3 of your 4 dark rides close you have a problem....especially hex as it is excellent. Sub terra is becoming at's millenium dome

Where has this acceptance that these rides will definitely close at all come from?

Less than two weeks until opening and still nothing from Alton on the subject, you would think there would be if there was anything in it happening.

Maybe it was all a big closed season joke at our expense......

......apart from the Flume that is closing and that Ripsaw has been busted apart and lorried away, obviously :)

N:ST had serious issues with the restraints on the test ride I went on last season. Me, Nicole and @John were the only ones able to ride, with not large @AstroDan and @josht amongst those booted. If they wish for a reopening, they'd better sort it out properly.

It just seems to me to be a lot of rumours taken as though they were fact. I might be wrong, of course, but if those 3 rides were to remain closed for a significant spell of time I would expect Alton towers to have confirmed so by now.

Alton Towers have not yet said anything, but equally they haven't exactly done anything to dissuade people's questions on the matter.

As it stands we still believe the rides we reported will be the rides not open :)

TowersStreet would not have reported the news had we not believed it to be true. I'm really not sure why Towers haven't confirmed anything yet, I can only assume they are trying their best to reverse at least one of the planned closures.

Hex is pretty much nailed on seeing as Towers leaked it on their website for a while not long ago.

EDIT: Scott beaten me to it! :p

:)

But then why would they leak it on the website and then reverse it if it was to remain closed? I certainly hope it's not to take advantage of potential bookings on the basis of it being there when they're aware it won't be.

We'll see I guess, I appreciate sub terra and hex are not the top attractions at the park but in my opinion they're both worth a ride and it will be irritating if they're not available next weekend, especially as AIR won't be either.

I really don't understand why they would be getting rid of hex. Understandably it would save them money but it seems like a really popular attraction, and I don't think anything else could really fit in there very well if they were to be replacing it.

As for the flume going, I really hope they'll be replacing it with another water ride as the rapids on their own don't really seem like enough.

And they also need to seriously invest in some more flat rides to cut down coaster queue times after getting rid of so many.

I don't think they are getting rid of Hex, the message that appeared then disappeared on the website said that it was closed to undergo a refurbishment.

:)

I wonder if that is just to keep people quiet until they forget about it. Wouldn't be surprised if you turned up one day and all the signs had been taken down.

I hope it doesn't go, I need somewhere to hide from the rain when I'm in the vicinity, plus it is a little bit of towers history it's based on :)

Hopefully that message was written before they realised that the refurb can be done before the park opens.

If they're aware it will definitely be closed then they should make it clear now. Although it isn't the top attraction for me, many younger guests etc will probably look forward to riding it. Also seeing closed ride after closed ride when wandering around the park doesn't leave a great impression.
