Major Ride Closures 2016

If any rides will reopen this year it will be Driving School and/or Hex. I don't think anyone really expects either, it's just a small glimmer of hope for some (myself included).

Knowing Towers, I would expect these to reopen next year as 'new and improved'. I could imagine that being how they've managed to get funding for TLC.

If Towers continue TLC as a rolling program of closing rides for a season I'm not sure if I would bother visiting in 2017. You can perhaps let it pass for one season given the circumstances, although with queue times being generally higher than last year one would assume that guest figures have increased slightly this season, so there's no need to have such a severe cut in ride offerings in 2017. It's the one area of operations you can't really keep cutting and get away with it.

Dunno about Towers, but in it's heyday, Chessie was open til 21:00 every night over the summer.

;)

... I'mma see maself out...

The loss of the Flume really hurts but its been on borrowed time for a long time. The ducks now live in Mr Blooms Allotment which always gives my daughter a smile :D

Hex is the killer though. We love that ride and how it used an existing story surrounding the Towers. I think the "parking" issues are seriously overstated as a reason why its closed. Its staffing and budget mainly. It never parked so badly to be unsafe or even noticeable to anyone but us geeks on here.

All the rides cuts needed high number of staff to operate or where hugely expensive. Hex (staff - 5?), Driving School (staff - 4?), NST (staff - never been on so not sure but its a lot), Flume (expensive). Its all down to budget following Smiler disaster.

The only one I don't get was Ripsaw. Didn't need a lot of staff and wasn't expensive (or was it?) and was a great ride to manage queues.

I believe Ripsaw left because it wasn't in good physical condition. I'm sad to see it go, but I'm not surprised. The Blade's on borrowed time, too - it's surely got to go within the next couple of seasons.

If the Blade goes and isn't replace the park is going to be seriously lacking for that 3 to 10 year old market... I suppose it won't be too bad if Hex comes back and SW8 is suitable for 1.2 meters

Hex: I agree that the parking issue would not be the only reason for its closure, but I think it is a little more than just budget cuts. As its in the towers themselves, I believe restoration work would have to take place every so often. Also, many of the effects have broken over time and I hope to see these working again when the ride eventually opens.

Ripsaw: was very sad to see ripsaw leave the park. My last ride on it at scarefest was one of the most intense rides I've ever experienced (I think I greyed out on it), and it looked great in the dark with its lights on. Unfortunately though, I was not surprised to hear that it would not be returning. If you had heard the noise it was making, especially towards to end of the season, you'd see that it didn't have long left. You could literally hear ripsaw tearing itself apart and I think there's only so much towers will pay to maintain an old flat ride that rarely gets queues *stares at enterprise and blade*

I agree with what your saying, this is one of those rarer moments as Enterprise currently has a 45 minute queue which with the current number of other rides closed isn't that suprising and shows the demand for more flats on busier days, espeically in areas where the newer larger attractions are, I would imagine if Ripsaw was still around this season it would of been eating up some of the Galactica over spill.

And no doubt under Merlin's ownership Chessie is now only open for an hour on a Saturday morning? Been a while since I've been.

True dat. With the loss of both Ripsaw and NST, Forbidden Valley is under a lot of strain and suffering badly, just like Dark Forest has done for the past few years with only Th13teen and Rita. Flats or at least some kind of filler attraction are needed!!

ripsaws revenge

And they've already got the logo for it ;)

I still think th13teen needs adding!!! It was closed AGAIN yesterday. That's FOUR TIMES IN A ROW when Ive visited. What is going on?? Galactica was closed too was that due to VR issues or problems with coaster?

Believed to be VR issues. Which is funny as, of course, the coaster itself could've ran perfectly well...
