Monorail Refurbishment

yeah, but the trains aren't that heavy, the frame is probably steel, but the body is fiberglass. wear is probably very low as they look to use rubber tires (much softer than steel, so they will wear down instead)I absolutely wouldn’t assume this - the heavy trains will certainly cause a lot of stresses and strains, leading to deterioration over time.
The only problem is the cyclic load probably will cause cracks to form in the steel, but compared to a rollercoaster track the forces will probably be much less and given how it looks to be built I would imagine it has a quite a long life. worse case a couple of parts need replacing I can't recall how they atached each section of track but given how straight it is it wouldn't be too difficult to manurfacture.

There's always a cheaper option. Like closing the whole park and selling off all the rides for scrap. Depends how far you want to take it. Buy cheap, buy twice.
Very accurate description of the UK economy bravo Sir!

So true….
Cobus 3000 always the cheapest option. Only need two of them to load up an entire plane, just put some dolly pegs out on the road system so they have their own lane/priority.There's always a cheaper option. If you want to get really fancy, turn the FV entrance into an express one, AT aren’t above charging for things so they could charge £15 for FV entrance + Nemesis fasttrack ticket or something.
Can disabled/RAP etc use that entrance without a hotel booking? If not then maybe they could do to save the 1k walk to the other entrance.

The galactica gate is strictly hotel guests only, however if the Monorail is unavailable they will let day guests use it..Can disabled/RAP etc use that entrance without a hotel booking? If not then maybe they could do to save the 1k walk to the other entrance.

Never knew that. I like @dave___ idea personally
Upsell that entrance. Some numpties will pay it - but on the basis any gained money will refurb the monorail
We know it won’t work that way cash in the bank just goes into the wider Merlin kitty

I appreciate that beating down on Merlin is good for the reactions, but you've also just pointed out that they've spent a rumoured £9 million refurbishing the Skyride, which isn't exactly a marketable attraction.Never knew that. I like @dave___ idea personally

Id hate to guess at a monorail refurb cost - but I’ve heard somewhere that works on Skyride totalled £9m

I’m not sure I’m following your point?

Your most recent post suggested that Merlin wouldn't invest in the monorail, because money grabbing Merlin. Your previous post admired the level of investment that Merlin are rumoured to have spent restoring the Skyride.I’m not sure I’m following your point?
Isn't it possible that the level of investment that the Skyride has seen, could suggest that perhaps Merlin invest in the heritage ride that is the Monorail too?

I think you’ve missed what I was trying to say.
I like the idea of upselling the entrance by Galactica if it raises more funds to allow for more investment.
I don’t believe however this would be the case if they did so. Any additional funds would likely go straight to Merlin’s wider kitty.
But that’s doesn’t mean I don’t believe they won’t refurb the monorail. I think they will. I just don’t think Alton themselves would be able to keep any additional cash generated by their site.

I missed the finer point of your final paragraph, in your original post. Please accept my apologies!I think you’ve missed what I was trying to say.

The previous two posts are the perfect example of why this place is still the most civilised internet forum I have seen in all my thirty years online.
We're not perfect. But have you seen what's outside those walls‽
Scary isn’t it
This is one of the simplest things they could do to massively improve the current entrance experience. I'm baffled why it hasn't been done already. In the mean time can they let us see out the windows please

Working in the industry myself the window stuff can be pretty awful to remove, yet nothing a heat gun won't do. Totally agree the window vinyls must goThis is one of the simplest things they could do to massively improve the current entrance experience. I'm baffled why it hasn't been done already.
