Nick's NL Coaster Thread

Hello. :)

Welcome to my thread of genius No Limits coaster's, that are lovingly made by yours truly.

Now, for one I've been working on for a bit:

Clearly a Intamin Blitz, but with Immelmann going to vertical drop, after a over-vertical drop. Then we have a powerful -1 G hill, before a dive loop.

Any ideas for things to change, put in to the layout or technical points would be appreciated.

No name for the coaster yet, but a great one is brewing.

Thanks for reading.

Interesting so far, looks like pretty good trackwork. We going to see some turns or is it just going to be endless half loops? ;)

You'll have to wait and see.

Just a quick update. The layout is complete, and smoothing will commence soon. Here's a pic:

A couple of interesting features on the coaster, as well as a lot of air-time and bends.

Amazing news (for me anyway).

Firstly, I managed to (very legally of course ;)) get the AHG, Newton and other tools working on my Mac. Usually, I get very frustrated with my track-work being sub-satisfactory, and never finish a project. The other problem is poor choices of layout.

Which brings me onto my second point, in which there's a track I've made that I actually like the layout of. Even more surprisingly, I'm actually think going to make a project out of it. It's early days, I know, but I think I have the motivation (caused by the addition of tools) to make this themed. It'll take some time to work out how I'll do it, but I'm determined that I will.

The track (subject to change in a few locations):

I'll use AHG with this one, as I haven't quite got to the acceptable level in Newton. I'll make it as smooth as humanly possible in NL, try and get some nice G's, before putting it through the AHG.

Points for anyone who can guess what it is.

About using AHG...

Does anyone have any good tutorials/advice on it. I understand the track colouring etc. but I've got no idea how to keep the forces in check. Mainly the lateral forces.

Anything would be good.

AHG is supposed to get rid of them?

However, if you've already got banking on the track before running it through, this might mess up AHG. I always leave everything I can unbanked.

Every time I put it through, it either messes up the banking, but it's smooth, or does the opposite.

And by everything, do you mean inversions etc.

Hmmm...

I tried what you suggested, but still found that the banking was still way off. It was literally half of what it should have been on the overbanked turns, and the G's were shocking. It's very frustrating that something that should help is actually making it worse.

Is it a case of it transitioning too quickly? If so, try banking the overbanks yourself. If you know the ballpark region you need the apex to be at, set it and bank the neighbouring sections in such a way as to make the transition smooth, then make those sections black and then running it through AHG.

Normally I leave everything white, apart from air hills and anywhere else I want to have less than 1G, smooth the track, run it through AHG then smooth the output track, then make any adjustments by hand after testing it. Normally works, but these days I just prefer to cut out the middle man and use Newton. :p

After many, many hours and attempts at trying to use the AHG, I've admitted defeat. Some of the track worked, but the rest was appalling, so I have just left the track as it was. The track's not too bad anyway.

Here's some pics of the finished layout:

And then Anubis' first hill element

Which goes into a gentle curve, before a corkscrew

Then a bend going into the MCBR

It then drops down into a small hill

Then it turns around, goes over a curved hill

And then up a helix to finish

Facts:

Top speed: 54 MPH
Height: 90 feet
Length:2410 feet
Inversions: 2
Max G's: +4.0G, -0.7G
Laterals G's... ±0.7 :-[

Thanks for reading.

And also another thing I've been working on for a couple of hours:

Park-121024230615000_zps7221bd42.png

Made entirely out of supports.

Making those windows was the most repetitive thing in the world, and the stairs likewise.

And for once, it's not been made in RCT. There's far too many manor houses! :p

Of course I can't stay concentrated on one particular idea, but those projects shown above are still ongoing (albeit very slowly).

Just another coaster I've been working on.

It's a CCI, with a bit of GCI and GG thrown in for good measure (completely unrealistic I know, but more so than Outlaw Run).
It completely rips off is influenced by Boulder Dash and Tremors.

The main, signature element will be a track going through the station's roof, whilst two go underneath the station. Will feature quite a few tunnels as well.

Anyway, here's some completely unhelpful pictures:

Good luck trying to make anything out from that.

Stats:
Speed- 54 MPH
Height- 155 feet
Drop- 100 feet
Length- 4916 feet
Airtime hills- too many

And, by the way, the shaping's crap because it's only a plan.

Thanks for reading. :)

Thats an amazing use of supports! It must have taken you ages!
I can barely build decent looking supports with NL never mind buildings!

Amazing!

:)

Thanks a lot!

It took about two or three hours I think, it's mainly just repetition of the same thing. The more you do it though, the more precise you get with each part. You learn quite a few ways to make it easier as well.
