Oakwood Discussion

As someone who spent most childhood summers in Pembrokeshire and visited Oakwood almost all of those summers, this is extremely sad for me as probably wouldn't be an enthusiast without it. Even more sad though for those involved and West Wales. Sadly not suprising.

That's Flambards and Oakwood gone in the space of six months. I'm guessing rising energy costs, increases to NI and minimum wage coming soon maybe tipped it over the edge.

I hope Megaphobia could be be saved, would be awesome at Southport. Speed could be a nice pick up for Pleasure beach Great Yarmouth

Some investment would be required on the buying parks part But.. it’s iconic. And the UK’s best wooden coaster. Don’t ruin my dreams man :(

Beyond gutted at the closure of Oakwood. My thoughts go out to those who have lost jobs and locals who have lost their hobby. Not at all surprising to see it happen though after years of neglect.

I do wish closures of rides/parks could be given that bit more notice so that people can have their last visits. I would love to ride Megafobia one last time.
I have some incredible memories from Oakwood and Megafobia is a huge loss. I would imagine Speed and some smaller rides will be relocated.

Get out there and visit those smaller family parks this year because you truly don't know when you've had your last rides. What a shame. :(

Absolutely gutted. First visited as a young kid in probably 1991 and have been pretty much every year since. It’s the place that made me a coaster enthusiast. My big piece of megafobia track in the garden sits pride of place. Woodies don’t really move, so not a lot of hope. But maybe, just maybe, Megafobia, if nothing else, can be taken on by Bluestone.

First Pleasure Camelot, Then Pleasure Island, now Oakwood...

I'm forever going to be sad that I'll never get to experience any of these parks, but Oakwood really was a bucket list park, mostly because of Megaphobia.

Hope it gets sold to someone... but I won't get my hopes up...

The UK theme park industry is real turd at the minute. Loss of rides that didn't even need closing/removing. The concerning future of Blackpool Pleasure Beach, the pathetic excuse of a company that is Merlin, now an entire park closing...

Where did we go so wrong...

The parks in danger are Lightwater Valley, Pleasure wood Hills and Camel creek (which is still in administration). Pleasure beech BP should be ok short term at least.

Seems like the accident has sealed it's fate.

My worry now is that Oakwood will announce it's permanent closure in the coming weeks.
Sad news hearing about Oakwood's closure. It seems that the pessimist in me was right with this prediction. 😭

I hope Speed and Megafobia get saved and find new homes, ideally in the UK 😌

Was there not some theory ages ago that Rita was designed to fit Speed's site? Shame Speed is way too tall to fit on Rita's site.
