Oakwood Discussion

Why couldn't Centre Parks operate a coaster? It could just be another attraction that they have for visitors. Operated only at specific times throughout the day.

On the other hand, it's a "would they want it?" type of thing? With maintenance and staffing etc.

I think they could really integrate a roller coaster pretty well into a Centre Parks type offering. Especially a wooden coaster, fits with their image and branding of being outdoorsy and natural.

Sorry for the double post but i've been thinking about the whole Center Parcs thing a bit more and to me it appears like a no brainer.

Oakwood would make a perfect expansion plot for the Bluestone resort and a Center Parcs takeover would fit in perfectly from what I can see.

It makes sense with or without Megafobia. Without it, I can see Oakwood being absorbed into the resort and being used as expansion for activities / lodges.

With it, I can see the same but the coaster being advertised as a USP for that resort that none of their other locations have. It being located in very close proximity to their existing car park and water park dome structure keeps those facilities close together etc.

The whole thing seems to make sense to me and it also wouldn't be the first time that Center Parcs have acquired an independent resort location.

Sounds like a decent outcome to me if that actually happened.

Totally agree. Center Parks already operate high ropes and water parks so why not add Megafobia as an upcharge activity? Anyone who’s visited Center Parks will know it’s far from cheap, so they could charge pretty high prices for their guests to use Megafobia. Also don’t forget it’s recently been retracked, meaning one less job for them if this does happen.

With or without Megafobia, I don’t think that a CP takeover is far fetched at all. Whether or not Aspro would allow it is another question.

I’m sure if CP can model a profitable pay-to ride strategy for Megafobia, they’d be open to it.

It’s just whether all the operating costs supersede any pricing model they can realistically implement, that might put a stink on it.

In fairness, they could charge a huge sum. Parents can ignore please for ride tickets for a day or two - but the prospect of 7 days of Megafobia requests from the kids would break almost anyone.

Week-long ride pass for £75pp. That’s my pricing model with no modelling, and barely any thought.

I'm imagining a situation where it could be a little controversial amongst enthusiats if Centre Parcs were to operate Megafobia but only having it accessible to guests staying at the resort. Do Center Parcs have any facilities at their resorts that they open to to the public via day passes or anything like that or do they keep everything strictly for holiday guests only? Obviously this is all theoretical anyway.

If CP took over the site and integrated Megafobia, i'm confident that they would learn about the coaster enthusiast community preeeeety quickly and i'm sure it would be obvious that it could be beneficial to them to come up with something that allows enthusiasts to visit and ride on a day pass or some form of multi ride deal. There are literally hundreds of solutions so i wouldn't be too worried about it just yet.

Let's get Megafobia saved first!

I’m hearing but only a rumour at this stage so I’m taking it with a pinch of salt as they call it that center parcs have bought the land at Oakwood
Literally right on the other side of the hedge of Bluestone? Not in a million years. Unless they’ve bought Bluestone too, which is fractionally more of a possibility than them just buying the land next door. They’re spending all their money developing a resort in Scotland at the moment, so I suspect this is highly unlikely. But even if it was (which it isn’t), Megafobia is a gonner for certain. Even more certainly than the fact that it’s almost certainly gone regardless.

I would book a weekends stay to go on Megafobia.

At the end of the day it’s just the same principle as cruise ships with coasters on, which only cruise ship passengers can access.

I would normally not believe this type of rumour, but as @Matt Cartmill was an Oakwood employee for many years and continued to work there even after the closure was announced, I am not going to dismiss it straight away. Like he said, it should be taken with a pinch of salt. But I don’t think it should be just dismissed straight away.
