Paultons Park: General Discussion

Outside of Thoosie circles, Drayton Manor Park and Zoo IS Thomas Land.
That may be true especially during the Thomas Land investment years.

Although Drayton Manor was known for Shockwave, Maelstrom, Apocalypse, G Force and Stormforce 10 to non-thoosie circles around that time as well.

When I thought of Drayton Manor even before my thoosie days, I thought of Shockwave as that was on the ride logo.

The main difference between Paultons and the likes of Drayton Manor and Chessington is that there is currently no signature coaster that the park is really known for whilst those parks have Wave and Vampire.

I'm not sure if it has been picked up already but it looks like Cobra, Edge and Magma will be closed from 8th September 2025 until at least 30th April 2026 which might give some indication of when the new area might open. (Edge looks like it might open slightly earlier with planned closure until the end of Feb currently) With all these rides closed i feel that their late night openings in October might be a little underwhelming this year but obviously understandable considering the investments.

It's pretty obvious to anybody paying attention that Paultons will attempt that with their suspected mystery roller coaster in their upcoming Viking area, hopefully a big unique thrill ride akin to Altons' Wickerman or Air/Galactica (Stormchaser, Cobra, and FotP are very fine mid level thrill rides, but stick out less on the European stage, with Stormchaser being almost "off the shelf" in its broad layout).

B&M family invert?

It will be really interesting to see what this will be. I’m still hoping they stick true to what’s made them successful and go family - thrill. I thrill coaster just won’t work in my opinion.

Paultons already have a family invert so I would guess unlikely tbh, a woodie would potentially suit a Viking theme….
Storm Chaser doesn't properly invert as far as I'm aware. Though depending on where you are in the spin it can sometimes feel like it.

It will probably be an inverting thrill coaster with a low height restriction.

Correct me if I’m wrong here, but I think @Rob F might be referring to Flight of the Pterosaur when he says that “Paultons already have a family invert”.

Yeah, I don't see them getting a B&M Family Invert for a whole host of reasons. I can't imagine that it would present them the best value for money, and it would be a little similar to Flight of the Pterosaur.

It will be interesting to see what direction this new coaster does take. I think family thrill would be more suitable and likely then something out and out thrill. If they are looking to a 2026 opening, are they not going to need to put in a planning application pretty sharpish? I'm not totally clued up with the planning situation for Paultons.

Other people in here have previously mentioned Paultons have an exemption from planning permission, though they have a height limit in line with the trees, which to me would suggest a more thrilling ride than the current offering is likely to be launch based.

My money is still on the new Intamin family launch coaster that I mentioned in here back in November. Capable of inversions and airtime, and has a 1 metre height restriction. Time will tell, though, I expect we'll probably get more information at the upcoming Super Fans event in May.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it was an Intamin Hot Racer. They’re low in height, can invert, are supposedly fairly thrilling, and don’t have an overly high height restriction.

I think one would fit Paultons like a glove, and I think Paultons is lowly visited enough that the capacity wouldn’t be an issue either.

As far as I know, they wouldn't need one as it's classed as amusement Park land (unsure of the technical term), and can build to certain restrictions.

They did apply for permission to change use of land around the Cobra/Edge ares (and a bit beyond I think), but they don't need planning applications to build new rides ... none of their investments so far have done.

I know we’ve discussed this previously but having moments ago just seen the new one testing at Walabi I remain as convinced as ever they will not do this and will happily take a bet to agreed terms!

The duelling model would be worth a shot not in terms of larger capacity should (by then the park starts to get more popular) but a step up to LW's own Speedway. Honestly if this goes into the new Vikings area then you could make a British version of Duelling Dragons only with Scandinavian sea serpents battling it out. Would be quite something that.

YoY is a pair of RMC Raptors, not an Intamin Hot Racer. Intamin’s Hot Racers are a bit more family-friendly.

An example of an Intamin Hot Racer in Europe (well, the only Intamin Hot Racer in Europe) is Mahuka at Walibi Rhône-Alpes in France:

That ride is only 59ft tall and only goes 42mph, but looks really good and thrilling while not being too intense. I personally think that would fit Paultons like a glove!

Yeah. I think this is the most likely scenario. Something like goldrush with inversions.

Very certain that this will be Paultons Park's equivalent to Mandrill Mayhem or The Wave with at least one inversion, possibly even more.

Something that is thrilling (and be classed as a thrill ride) but also appeals to families.

Thrill rollercoasters and rides are also becoming more accessible nowadays with smaller riders being able to ride. I could certainly see it being very thrilling and comparable to the likes of Taron etc. with a height restriction of 1.2m-1.3m.

I can see this being family thrill which is a very broad category but can't see this being a pure family coaster.

I get the impression that most of the guesses predicting pure family coasters appear to based on the park's reputation.

I believe it's anyone's guess on what it is and it could really blow our minds away and surprise us. Don't be surprised if it's a thrill coaster with a 1.2m height requirement that also fits in as a family thrill coaster.
