Paultons Park: General Discussion

Id it's to do with sci-fi and being a bit of a crazy professor it totally makes sense! Of course it's themeing.. it should be judged once open and seen in person, not after one progress post.

Looks slow.

As much as I do like what Paultons have done here i do feel The Curse At Alton Manor does look a lot better with being much grander in appearance, real brick work used and real trees + a much better setting separated deep in the woods. But I’m with the understanding this is a quite a small dark ride aimed at the kiddies? If so looks great for the target market!

The main difference is reusing an existing building (4D Cinema) against a dedicated and designed in mind area.

For what they've done with the 4D Cinema and the system being compact, they've done a great job.

Especially with adding in a family dark ride to an existing building.

I don't think this is a ride for small children specifically, I think this is for families and will appeal to everyone in the same way Tomb Blaster does. It's more accessible than Curse.

Facade looks ok, nothing special.

Not too sure about the fake tree background though, Merlin would be battered if they did similar.

Hopefully when the trees mature you won't see much of it.

Merlin rather notoriously dont bother - see Haunted House Monster Party!

I dont think its designed to be looked at per se, more just done as a nifty trick so your main focus is on the building facade. Achieves this quite well I think, in pictures anyway.

Nice to see them going all out on what is really a very small scale dark ride really in square footage. A brilliant use of space and the theming looks spot on.

Will be holding off our visit until 2026 sadly as we wait for Vikings. It's a long way for us to travel and with Florida this year it's probably out of budget for a hotel / park break this time. At least we will have more new things to experience on our next visit though.

Great park. Hope people keep supporting them.

Id much prefer them to do what Paultons have done and make it look like trees / attempt to disguise the building as opposed to a massive monster party black tin shed in the middle of a park.

Apologies if this has already been mentioned, but I've just seen on Faebook that the Dragon Ride is now at Funland (Hayling Island) and is currently listed as coming soon on their website,

The tree translates great on camera, just assumed they had a tree there already, but now that I know it’s an image I can’t help but wonder how flat it might look in person?
I also wonder how it would look in different weather conditions, and from different angles.

It looks great in that picture, but that's from a specific angle with specific lighting on the image. Might not translate as well in reality.

Still, at least they have bothered to cover the building!

Merlin take note...

When a Merlin park do a video on winter maintenance everyone goes “ohh why they making a big deal of it, it’s just standard”, when Paultons do it everyone is 😍.

In all seriousness it’s nice to see but all parks spend a lot of money in winter to maintain rides, Merlin just don’t put enough millions in.
