Paultons Park: General Discussion

At the time the Smiler opened X-Sector already had two supporting flats and Oblivion was re-painted to freshen it up against the shiny new ride.

It was only later that the area went downhill.
Why always the digs at Towers I hate it when people pick a part Towers every time Paulton's is mentioned. I love Paultons and Alton for different reason both have pro's and con's

X-Sector had Enterprise, Submission and Oblivion when it opened so was the only ride the area needed at the time. The Smiler is a more impressive ride than Drakon for the fact it has the inversion record and is a much larger ride
I was pointing out that Paultons have had the foresight to develop the area further and future proof existing attractions and invest in new infrastructure. X-Sector's decline was predictable.

When The Smiler was built, Submission was already in a poor state and had been for years. With one side working it had a low throughput and since it's arrival at the park it was hardly the most beloved ride. It's closure a few months later cannot have been a surprise, so it could have been considered earlier and replaced ahead of the 2013 season, not necessarily with a flat ride, but with anything except patch of grass.

Oblivion did get a repaint which was excellent, but it didn't received a station overhaul, for example, to the standard of Cobra/Raven. This is also now in a sorry state. With Paultons' station refit they are also making an excising attraction more cohesive with the newly themed area. Given the choice I'd rather have had The Smiler themed in Oblivions style, but if more effort had gone into the theme of The Smiler I'd have loved to have seen that expanded throughout X-Sector too.

Obviously the scale of these projects aren't comparable but AT had deeper pockets. Can't help but think the additional investment would have paid off.

For the record I also love both, more so Towers arguably, hence the nit-picking.

I'm wondering if Critter Creek is next on the hit list to be honest; I've seen a couple of bits of evidence that may (or may not!) point towards that.

Beastie Burrows has now permanently closed.
Cat-O-Pillar & Expedition Express are now listed as closed throughout their entire "soft opening" and christmas events next year, when it's usually that entire side of the park open.

Now, i might be putting 2 + 2 together here, and getting 5, but might be worth keeping an eye on. Of course, Paultons does have a 2027 plan already in motion which does kinda put the brakes on my theory somewhat.

Surely next on the hit list will be the totally unthemed area next to Critter Creek. The area where Kontiki, Teacups, Viking Boats, Carousel and Pirate Ship currently stands.

Are they allowed to do anything with the space in between Lost Kingdom and Ghostly Manor the whole green area or is thst off limits off redevelopment

I suspect after 2027 we won’t see anything ride wise until 2030.

They’ve spent a lot of time- time to see a return and also so if the planned resort side works

I feel like outside of the top tier parks, most theme parks need something new each year. That doesn't need to be a ride but it's such an easy sell to the public. I would be surprised if Paultons went 3 years without a new attraction in light of their rate of additions/replacements in the past decade.

In fairness, 2027 we know will have something
2028 I’d say is the accommodation

So 2029 - maybe something small but I can’t see anything like want they’ve been doing the mart few years until 2030 when j suspect the big project will come

Agreed, they’ve made excellent sensible decisions recently. They need to get some return on their recent investments in some form, either in increased visitors, retail or f&b. And it would seem the 2027 addition is already in the offing.

(It was interesting in their recent video they referred to it being visible/watchable from the new Viking restaurant. Suggesting it will be an outdoor attraction at least)

Hopefully the new attractions will encourage them to keep going. But accommodation seems an excellent addition.

I’d say an indoor family dark ride (boat/tracked or trackless) and an indoor stage/screen area would serve them well in the future.
