Phantasialand: General Discussion

Black Mamba you now all enter the station using the front row queue, with the rude host sending you to a row, they are currently only filling one family/group per row. Also Colorado now has a batcher who fills the station, which means there isn’t a mass crowd on the platform like previously. They are however filling all rows.

Chiapas were filling one group per row, however the queue moved quickly as that ride just seems to have amazing throughput.

Not sure why but queue was out the door for mystery castle but they were only running three towers (four were working but for some reason one was empty).

And best news of all, the pre show wasn’t being used at all on the mad house, so straight in to the ride! They have circles on the seats and you are meant to keep a gap between you and other groups.

Apart from that the park felt very busy, so there is clearly no restrictions on numbers and it is quite hard to keep away from others (however that felt the same in all the German theme parks we visited), if anything it felt busier than previous visits, however all rides and shows were open (except Hollywood tour which I believe is broke), and operations in General were very good.

Which other German parks did you visit and how busy were they in comparison to Phantasialand (phantasialand has been packed). Did you get out to tripsdrill?
 
In the past month in Germany I’ve done:
- Tripsdrill, really quiet compared to others.
- Heide Park Not too busy but bad operations and a lot of closed rides meant bigger than needed queues.
- Movie Park (twice) first visit was very busy and certainly didn’t feel like they had restricted numbers at all, which meant we didn’t do all rides. Second visit was much quieter so did majority of the park.
- Hansa Park, felt busy but managed to do all we wanted to do.

Since my post I’ve since been back to Phantasiland which was still busy but maybe not quite as busy as last time, as food kiosks, paths, etc felt more quieter than my previous visit. However I would say they have zero restrictions on tickets at all and most rides run as normal.

Did you see any work taking place on Rookburgh or F.L.Y?
 
Not to mention neither park has delivered such a challenging project like this... Something so complex and layered is more comparable to Disney's coasters that take years although even then they've not attempted something like this in such a small space with a hotel mixed in.
Not to do a disservice to either parks with their great projects too. EP in particular must be commended for the speed and quality with which they developed the rebuilt Scandinavian area, Snorri Touren and Piraten in Batavia - but its a vastly different project with flat land to work on, more space, and different circumstances with much larger project and construction teams and more financial power behind them.

Its unlucky its still not done. But corona lockdown delayed them badly. The planned June opening was quickly lost as Universal Rocks stopped and pulled back to Portugal and other contractors suffered delays in supplies. Coaster has been done and certified for months now. Work is apparently now reaching its end. Suppose now the only question is do you bother opening it this Autumn, or wait and hope next season will be better and not have so many restrictions?

That being said strangely for the end of summer and in difficult times of limited numbers they have just recently started to heavily advertise for new jobs as ride operators and staff for Sweets + Snacks outlet. Rookburgh obviously has a large coaster and food outlets including the Chocolates and Candy Shop but it is probably just a coincidence, would be too good to be true. :p
 
The difference between Energylandia and Phantasialand is that Phantasia takes the time and effort to craft intricate theming and detail. Energylandia just throws things up as quickly as possible without that consideration. Less so with their recent projects, but they receive vast funding and also have a much larger workforce to ensure these things are opened as quickly as possible.

Efteling could have done a lot more with the land-scaping when it comes to max and moritz. The whole layout is quite “flat” and the coasters don’t really have the depth and complexity that is required to construct rookburgh.

EP, top quality project, but as said above flat land and doesn’t have such limited space and have to build on top of themselves like Phantasialand always have to try and achieve, which can be very hard logistically in design and construction.

Bar from aqualantis and dragon zone, energylandia is pretty tacky. And dragon zone is nowhere near comparable to the amount of detail and level of atmosphere and immersion that Phantasialand create.

Bar from aqualantis and dragon zone, energylandia is pretty tacky. And dragon zone is nowhere near comparable to the amount of detail and level of atmosphere and immersion that Phantasialand create.



It’s perfectly possible. It’s anyone’s guess at this point. The work is almost finished.

The exterior looks finished but the interior maybe not!
 
I think it's unfair on Efteling to use Max and Moritz as the comparison. A better like for like comparison would be Symbolica (a genuine rival to Disney) or Baron (which you can't fault the themeing).

But that aside I don't mind Phantasialand taking their time when every bit of land has to count. Not to mention almost all rides for this year have had some amount of delay.
 
I think my main gripe is they haven't added anything of real substance for four years (soon to be five).

It's long enough.

I love the park massively, but there is a limit into it's revisit-ability when they haven't added anything much in so long.

  • Voletarium
  • 2 new 4D films (Happy Family and Nachts im Park)
  • Jim Knopf (major retheme)
  • CanCan Coaster (rebuild and retheme)
  • Madame Freudenreich Curiosités (major retheme)
  • Scandinavian alley (rebuild of a detailed area)
  • Snorri Touren
  • Hotel Krønasår
  • Rulantica
  • Piraten In Batavia
  • probably a few other things I'm forgetting

I do love the place, and I know it's a different situation, but I'm just saying.

They've also got a new sponsorship for Blue Fire. Also Phantasialand have refurbished Talocan as well so you can't just say Crazy Bats even though it feels like it.
 
Phantasialand are also a family park and don't have the swathes of money Mack presumably do.

4 years between major projects is probably about right for a park. They probably could add some filler in between the years (stuff like Tikal) but they don't seem the sort of park to add stuff for the sake of adding things.

Exactly and Mack are also a company who showcase most of their prototypes at Europa Park like they did with Euro-Mir, Arthur and Blue Fire for example!
