Pleasurewood Hills

Cannonball express is a fun coaster but it's also a relic, it impressive it's still actually operating.

Id be happy if Loopings bought some decent second hand rides to fill out the park and replace some of the aging rides. You don't need to spend mega money refreshing the lineup on a regional park, you can still market second hand rides as a new experience.

Yes, yet they would have done this by now if they wanted too.

I went on that Reverchon spinner at Ocean Beach (the death cred) in August and it really didn’t seem like the operators gave much of a toss about safety even then. They were kicking off the spin lock and having two of them manually spin each car as fast as it could go on every despatch. Was it fun? Yes… Was it in line with Reverchon manufacturer guidance? Ehh…

If they bring some of their, erm, rather lax safety practices to PWH then 😬 oh dear…

Not living anywhere near the North East, I can’t say I’m that familiar with Premier Attractions’ portfolio, but by the sounds of things, it sounds as though the company mainly specialises in funfairs and funfair rides rather than permanent theme parks.

It will be interesting to see what new ownership could bring for Pleasurewood. I wonder whether a company less focused on places like Drayton Manor could bring better things to the park, or whether the clout of a larger, better-known firm like Looping Group might prove to be missed in the long run.

I've got mixed feelings about this at the moment I don't know which way it's gonna go it could be a great for the park and they could end up getting the best period they've ever had in recent years or the park could end to potential closure and administration. But I do hope the current management team stays on as they've done a really good job of making pleasure with hills great in areas with a certain budget aka Wipeout refurbishment this year. And hopefully safety is a priority we don't want any accidents.

Premier Attractions is one part of a company called Stokes Industries which seems to design and manufacture its own rides and act as a middleman for selling off other travelling rides from Reverchon and the like:

Emphasis is very much on family business - their email is a @hotmail.com.

I imagine there’s a reasonably high chance PWH gets a couple of new rides - but they will 100% be travelling ones and plonked down somewhere. Can’t see it doing much for the park’s current downward trajectory so if you want to visit, probably go this year or next.

Tbf, South Shields Ocean Beach punches above it's weight, not least because there is a solid core of rides and they seasonally ship in rides not on the circuit and it seems to work relatively well for them. Might be the best scenario just as mellors was for Fantasy Island.

The death that happened with a worker was on a different spinning coaster, it was Crash Test manufactured by Cedeal Rides. That ride left the park a couple of years ago, they replaced it with the current ride which is indeed a Reverchon spinner called Spinning Coaster.

As for the new ownership of Pleasurewood Hills I wouldn’t expect much from it. Ocean Beach is my local park less than half an hour drive from me and I can’t be bothered to ever visit it these days. They used to do more in terms of getting visiting rides from the fairground circuit but that seems to happen with a lot less frequency in the past few years than it used to.

I’d expect PWH to basically become a funfair, will be interesting to see if they keep the current ticket price structure in place or if they open it up to free entry and switch over to a pay per ride system. Ocean Beach stopped doing wristbands some years back and everything became individually paid for so it wouldn’t shock me if they went that way, perhaps looking at improving the parks food outlets to capitalise on that. I’d be fascinated to know how much they paid for PWH because I wouldn’t have thought that the new owners would have spent big on it.
