PortAventura: General Discussion

I find it interesting that they are undertaking a full repaint of Dragon Khan. Would imply they believe its got a fair bit of life left in it yet. Given its age and how dreadfully it has begun to ride I genuinely thought something would be on the cards for it quite imminently.

I have ridden dragon khan in around 2018, It was one of our favourite coasters at the park, honestly better than shambala…. Which was a terrible experience vs how silver star can run on a good day

I’m sure someone will correct me, but Dragon Khan must be one of the oldest B&Ms to have such a long operating season without having ever been retracked. It’s surely time to do something after 30 years.

Kumba at Busch Gardens operates year round and is 2 years older, so if that one hasn’t croaked yet, then I think Khan is safe for now.

Of the B&Ms we’ve seen removed or retracked, I honestly don’t think age alone was the key factor, or at very least, I don’t think age was the sole factor. Hulk had the launch, Nemesis had the pit and the weird supports, Dragon Challenge was disliked by JK Rowling and didn’t really fit within Universal’s hugely bankable IP land, and Green Lantern was generally not very well received at all and commonly thought of as a bit of a strange investment at Six Flags Great Adventure.

Admins, I noticed PortAventura is making a big thing about it's 30th anniversary year. Would it be possible to temporarily change the title of this thread for this year? Eg PortAventura (30 year anniversary): General Discussion.
(Europa Park is 50 years too so it could be good for that one too).

Hopefully it'll draw people to contribute towards the celebrations/ events etc.

I can't remember where I read this, but is it true there are slightly discounted fastpass vending machines in the hotel lobbies?

Yes there was when I went a couple years ago in gold river.

I don’t remember it being discounted but I think it had more options. Can anyone verify?

In years gone by the express passes purchased at the hotels were the price of a one day pass, but were valid for the duration of your hotel stay.

A year or so ago that changed to remove the multi-day perk and just apply a discount to the purchase of the pass at your hotel. They’re generally a few euros cheaper than if you bought them in general sale from the park.

Staff are planning on striking at the park over Easter weekend.

The staff of the Spanish theme park resort PortAventura World will go on strike for Easter. This has been announced by the unions. They are demanding, according to them, "a decent employment contract" . A 24-hour strike will therefore take place on Saturday 19 April. PortAventura plans to remain open to the public.

Uh-oh, I'm going on the 20th... Hopefully they reach a decent agreement before then.

I'm heading to Port Aventura on the 6th of April. Booked gold river for 4 nights with the 30th anniversary discount for €514 b&b.. Looking forward to a back row, outer seat Baco ride 😂
How did you get on? Did you succumb to the express passes?
Going 12th to 15th. Have some long days 10-8, 10-7.. Looking at recent Google reviews ops no better than what people keep saying. Not sure if I resign myself to 7-8 rides per day.. or to just swallow an express pass for 1 day only. £200 for a family of 4 so won't be doing that every day. Suppose it's going to a decision as to whether we want re-rides or not.

We had a great trip to be fair. (We're still in salou at a spa to relax after the queueing! 😅) We spent 3 days getting in rides when we could and the 4th day with a fast pass ultimate (5th day walk around). Unfortunately it really is essential when visiting PA. We got in around 20 walk on rides on Wednesday. Compared to 5 or 6 queued rides on the other days, so at £70ish pp it was worth it... You'll have a great time. I love that park tbh, I'd 100% recommend budgeting for a one day fast pass day to get the most out of it!. Enjoy!

Oh and we did fast pass Ferrari. Again nobody seems to use the fast pass tickets. The rides apart from red force are bad!! My missus didn't feel great after all the sun when we went there so I waited till night and quite literally walked on the front row twice. Saved me 2 hours and I made sure she was ok. Sad it's a requirement, but at £440 for 4 nights b&b including tickets! It's worth it.
