Its a surprise trip with my baby nephew and she hasn’t been to the park for 40 years, so there’s a chance she’ll make up her mind to ride something and I want to know if it’s safe or if I should say no x

Could try her on something tame (like the rapids ;)) to start with and then gradually build her up to the big rides.
 
Thanks for the advice guys ! It won’t be a case of her being scared or nervous so will just warn her away from any of the rougher rides !

Thirteen is definitely a good start, and Wicker Man is too but first thing so it's not as mental. :)
 
I mean, Doris Thompson was riding coasters at Blackpool Pleasure Beach well into her 80s and 90s, so it wouldn’t be hugely unsafe for her to ride by any means.

It just depends how much of a risk you want to take. Like others have said, I would perhaps start with a milder ride and build up to something bigger; of the non-Octonauts coasters at the park, I’d say Thirteen or Runaway Mine Train might be a logical starting point, personally.
 
Any advice welcome...

We used the 2 for 1 codes earlier in the month, and the day is now listed on the rainy day page. Not reading the terms (oops), I booked us in for tomorrow. It says you won't be given barcodes, but oddly we have. I assume they're not activated or something. To be clear, as far as I can see 2 for 1 codes don't get rainy day guarantee, and when booking the 'replacement' day, nothing is checked to ensure the right ticket is used - you seemingly just get checked at entry/admissions.

Anyway, it's a long way to go for us so I decided rather than trying to 'wing it' (which seems unlikely!), I'd buy more tickets - only it's completely sold out now :(

My question is... if I have this barcode, should I try and scan in or would that look like fraud? If I go to admissions and explain, will I be allowed to pay the gate price to get in? At the very least I have a reservation for a place that day, so that seems to make sense? my point is that if I've made the journey, through gritted teeth I would pay the full gate price... IF they let me in at all.

Finally... why have I been given a new barcode when it specifically says I won't be?

This sounds like typical Alton Towers organisation! Basically you have barcode because, well they probably messed up somewhere.

You are right, officially your tickets are not valid for a free return under the rainy day policy. In reality because you have a barcoded ticket the likelihood is that it will scan and you will get in.

I would also take along some more 241 vouchers just in case they do refuse entry, that way you can argue your case that you have a counted place in the park for capacity reasons and you won’t need to pay full price for your replacement tickets.
 
I assume that barcode is your reservation? You have to bring that and your original tickets to the admissions window at the park to obtain your complimentary tickets. They will check the tickets for validity, so it's almost certain that you won't be able to use them as they are not covered by the Rainy Day Return guarantee.
 
Thanks both, I'm honestly not sure. The wording on the website is (eventually) pretty clear cut - £34 advance is valid, all others are not. Then it clearly states (in bold text no less) YOU WILL NOT BE GIVEN A BARCODE... blah blah.

However, the email is the same as the original email, with a "View Tickets" button, which then takes you to something that looks more or less the same as a normal ticket. The "Insert this way" isn't shown, but otherwise its identical to a ticket. My assumption is that the barcode is not yet activated for entry etc (in the same way as I assume turning up with a ticket for the wrong day won't scan).

Good idea on the 2 for 1 codes - That was going to be my next question really - how easy (or hard) are AT to deal with with things like this? I didn't want to post that originally in case I came across as a chancer. I'm honestly not - it's more about whether I'll get in at all at this stage!

Well amazingly I eventually managed to speak to a human at Alton Towers. I was honest about the screw up etc, and explained I was just interested in whether I would be allow in at all - even at full price. He checked and agreed that the barcode is odd but is just a reservation and wouldn't get into the park. However he manually created me a reservation (based on the fact I have the reservation anyway!) and I have a case number.

Still need to go to admissions which is a bit annoying but no major issue! What's the fastest way in via admissions? Haha.. any tips? Just early early?

That's what I was worried about. That said, I will get there as early as is sensible - I assume there will be a queue at admissions at 9am. Any ideas on a decent time to arrive (at the entrance, not the car park). We can do early!

Currently the turnstiles open at 9 to avoid crowds forming on the admissions plaza.
 
Ok gross question time . Anyone who’s been on park recently , there is a foul smell permeating through many parts of the park that can only be likened to male reproductive fluid. What on EARTH is causing this, it’s repulsive

It's the trees. I've had to explain this to quite a few people over the seasons, but I'm pretty certain that this is what you're referring to.
