Ride Access Pass and Disabled Access - 2024 Discussion

That's very odd wording, as the Sensory Space definitely isn't reserved only for RAP users. There is a RAP information desk there, which I guess is what it's referring to... but yeh, not clear at all.

I didn't have a chance to read it properly but there was also a sign outside saying something along the lines of "this is a calming space for guests with additional needs, please respect this" etc. It's quite a long sign so i guess nobody reads it.

People also don't typically care about the impact on us when these facilities aren't available, they think it's just us throwing a hissy fit when in meltdown, so they don't view it as that big a deal to use it...

My boy when he becomes over stimulated can be very loud and shouty and aggressive towards us (his parents) and takes approximately 10 mins to regulate in a sensory environment. He can run around and scream , often very teary.
Please dont be so quick to judge

I've inadvertently been caught out by the RAP prebook system (through my own fault)...

I'm going on holiday to Essex next Saturday with my parents and there's the possibility that we could stop off at Thorpe on the way back so I can finally get my Hyperia fix (it's a two hour drive from where we're staying so a day trip from there isn't an option). Now, I was under the impression that we were going 8th-15th July (Monday to Monday), so I booked an RAP slot for the 15th a few days ago so that was sorted just in case.

However, I found out yesterday that I'd somehow misheard and we're actually going 6th-13th July (oops) (Saturday to Saturday). And lo and behold the 13th is sold out for RAP. 🤦‍♂️😭

I've emailed the RAP team but aren't expecting them to be able to move it. I'm absolutely gutted as this could be the only chance I get to go to Thorpe this year. 😔

Unlikely on that date but worth checking up till the morning you go for cancellations (if you are a MAP). I’ve lucked out at both Chessington and LEGOLAND this year by persistently checking.

Could also bite the bullet and try getting a fast track if you don’t require non ambulant entrance.

It’s a shame the system has been abused to the point where RAP users no longer have freedom of choice but seems it’s the lesser evil at this stage.

They won’t change it because you booked the wrong date. You could try and get on the day but it is unlikely.

The upside is though that the RAP works brilliantly now when it comes to on park experience, better than it has in years

Don't really see how that's you being caught out by the system though (which implies the system is at fault), it's 100% you (very unfortunately) getting the date wrong...

Yeah I'm going to keep checking every day now, but every weekend on July is fully booked so I don't hold much hope.

Yeah that would be an option but not sure my parents would agree on top of the entry cost.

Yeah it's a choice between being able to freely pick dates and not having to wait an hour in the RAP queue.

Oh ours is a red wristband so don't know if that makes a difference there.

Surprised the system would be that robust honestly.
Yeah yellow and red are counted separately, i's why you have to select the colour before booking.

Do you know how they are distributed? 50/50?

Surely that should be linked to your account, what would happen if you booked the other type?
Not sure how it works, you have to enter your pass number after selecting the colour though.

Who knows, though, even if I'd got the dates right in the first place and had gone to book the 13th it could have already been sold out.

Out of curiosity i tried booking across all the parks.

They all showed the same availability regardless of which colour you choose so i'm assuming there is no split of allocation. The only difference is Yellow allows you to book one place whereas Red has a minimum of two so there's the potential of availability showing if there is a single slot left and you select Yellow. That would be the only logical difference.

The only other thing of note was Legoland requires your Access code if you select Red prior to showing availability which is probably just a coding error.

It's the same event within passport which is what controls the capacity (it's how day tickets and student tickets etc... share capacity), the order of steps is what passport calls an extra flow, there's a list of steps and it does them in order, one is to verify season pass id (rap is a season pass to passport).

Edit: they have the ability to cap specific packages, (eg set student tickets to not be more then say 20%) but from what I can see that's extremely rare it's used, merlin prefer to manually switch it off

Probably worth pointing out for those not in the know that Passport is the ticketing system used by the parks - would probably be beneficial to reference that in posts, rather than jumping straight into product names not known by most.

RAP prebooks for October have gone live for Chessy, no other parks as of yet though. Much earlier than I expected.
