Ride Availability/Operations 2022-25

It wasn't planned, at the start of yesterday they were saying they hoped to get it running that day.

We saw it testing in the afternoon then it was set to "essential maintenance" or something similar.

Suspect Rita may be heading for some more prolonged downtime. Was sat at the picnic tables by the station when they announced it wouldn’t be opening on time. Two techies then appeared on the launch track and were looking at the trough around where the catch car brakes are. As the area music was off, I could hear snippets of their conversation:

‘That’s red hot’
‘That’s gouged’
‘That’s terrible’
‘Looks like the catch car is riding low’

They also moved the catch car down the track at low speed, with a rather loud scraping sound. If I had to guess, it wasn’t aligned properly after the recent fix and is now dragging on the brake fins. 😬

Oh dear! Sounds like we’re about to head into more downtime… that’s Spinball and Rita out now 😬 I’m supposed to be visiting in a couple weeks, hope it’s not like this then!

And there we go, Rita down for essential maintenance according to queue times. Fingers crossed it reopens soon

I doubt it is anywhere near the break fins, there is no way for them to touch, they are not that close to eatch other relatively speaking. My guess would be perhaps the catch car is not rolling on it's wheel assembly correctly.

Just FYI, The catch car does have it's own set of magnetic brake fins, located at the end of the launch. You can see them in POVs if you pause towards the end of the launch.

Well, so much for Rita to celebrate her 20th anniversary with all those issues. Yeah, she's clearly on the downward slope for her eventual demise.

The catch car don't have wheels, it slides along the launch trough running on a thin layer of water and hydroplanes down the track, and is helped by being suspended with the cables

yeah, the last section of the launch track is the mag brakes, it is a good thing to not smash the catch car into the end of the launch track, there are also some in the station (can't remember if rita has them but I have seen them on other intamin accelerators)

I would guess it could be the mag brakes, or the water isn't properly applying and the slide blocks were scraping along the track from that description however I don't work on the rides and I am sure intamin designed many more ways in which the ride can break itself :)

Well today was fun. 10-4 and arrived at 10:30 .. park was dead, what could go wrong?
Toxicator had a queue evac the 4 times I tried to ride so didn’t manage it.

Got stuck on Galactica for 25 mins (didn’t dispatch. Didn’t let us off. Just sat there)
And 2x breakdowns on sky ride totalling almost 90 mins. Half the day gone to sitting around 🤦

Ride downtime can happen they are machines at the end of the day, Towers problem it is inconsistent you get very good days with minimal downtime and bad days with lots of downtime, inconsistency is their biggest problem

I mean, I really don’t think the consistency in the way you describe it is the problem. I’m pretty sure that no one’s thinking “the problem here is inconsistency - if they could just have poor downtime regularly, that would be far better”
