Ride/Park Accidents

And of course there's one individual who captured a photo of the child after being thrown it and is now actively selling it for money.....
 
Just had a look at the main tabloids, all of them have this as their top story with titles such as Theme Park HORROR!!!! Anyone up for bets on "should ThemeParks be banned" as the main topic on Jeremy Vine tomorrow... o_O

Click bait headlines aside the couple of articles I have seen have actually been well written, e.g.BBC article. Even the Daily Mail article seems fairly written :eek: Just like M&D's incident because its a regional park I expect this will largely be forgotten about in a couple of weeks time.

More importantly I'm glad to see the injuries are not threatening.
 
Apparently the cars have seatbelts but they are optional. Surely they should be compulsory? :confused:

Sadly, police have said that the lad is now in a critical condition and fighting for his life. Praying that he pulls through. :(:(:(

I don't think it's helpful for the mother of Gemma Savage, who died on this ride in 2001, to start making comments like

"It's unbelievable that this has happened on the same ride, 18 years on. Why wasn't the ride shut down?"

Where is the correlation between these two incidents?
 
There may well be some correlation between the two incidents, but we won't know until investigation results are released.

She is entitled to that opinion the ride did kill her daughter. I think it’s a bit mean of the media to be pestering her at this time but why wouldn’t she be angry, this will reopen all those wounds for her.
 
Given the magnitude of this incident, I think virtually all, if not all, of the coverage and language is appropriate.

The safety record of a ride and its operating entity is also valid background in this case, in my view.

There is a clear difference here between the sensationalism we see with lift hill stoppages etc. This is indeed a case of real-life horror for those who witnessed it, particularly of course the boy's family.
 
What I think is unhelpful are members of the public calling for the park to close. Closing the park won't heal the little boy it will only hurt park management, the employees and families who planned to go today.

I think the coverage is fair, apart from mentioning the 2001 incident. There is no evidence to suggest it is linked. In fact, if the boy did climb/slide out of the restraint then presumably this could happen on any Reverchon spinning mouse?
