As a new user I'm finding Ridecount really useful, it's already helping me keep track of where I've been and what I did there, thanks !

    Hi,

I don't use Ridecount at the moment as I have absolutely no interest in counting how many times I've been on a certain ride. I'm sure it's a perfectly good website, but it's just not something I'm interesting in doing.

But of course, I do count how many different coasters/rides I've been on. At the moment, I use a website called CoasterCounter for this, but it's a bit old and creaky, and rarely gets updated. Is there any chance of an alternative version of Ridecount for people simply interested in logging what rides they've been on, rather than how many times and on what dates? :)

Could you not just count each ride once ?

Yes, but some people, including myself, would like to have one count for individual coasters/rides, and another count for how many times. If we were to do this on the current ride count, we would have to make multiple accounts which is inconvenient.

CoasterCounter also offers many features specifically aimed at those just wanting to count invidual rides, such as cumulative lift-hill heights.

    Etc. :)

Something similar on Ridecount would be cool.

There is currently a plan on the roadmap to add a switchable 'mode' of ridecount to choose between logging how many times you've been on a ride, or just which rides you've been on.

It isn't planned for the first (initial) release, but is something we have planned to do.

Aggregate ride statistics (i.e. how many inversions you've done) is something nice, but requires a lot of work in terms of inputting data about rides for us - so it's on the 'ideas' board at the moment rather than on a planned release.

We are looking at a whole bunch of rewards (not physical rewards, but virtual rewards... think badges for achieving certain feats) for future releases too, however again its outside the scope of the current project.

We're hoping the newly developed site, which is massively simplified and improved, will launch in summer though, subject to University approval ;)

Could this feat be achieved through the use of a pen and paper or a computer spreadsheet?

I think I need some education here. I've heard about all this ridecount stuff over the years but I've never looked into it. I always wonder what is trying to be achieved by this ride-counting malarkey though. Is it similar to train spotting etc? Is there an online competition for who has been on the most rides worldwide and how many times? Is this why some people try to ride the Smiler 200 times a year?

That's one way of putting it - possibly because this forum's more focused on a single park, we don't have as much of it here, but coaster ('cred') counting is fairly important to the average enthusiast; it's a way of showing how well travelled, experienced and dedicated you are. As an old friend of mine once explained it 'think of it as high adrenaline stamp collecting'.

And I have to say, I agree with Sam on this; whilst I like to have a list of how many times I've visited various parks over the season, even my memory's not good enough to count exactly how many rides I've had on Nemesis on days when the last hour of the day is spent running round and around the queue line - and I'm afraid, nor is this a massively important statistic to me :p
I don't use coastercounter anymore, because as Sam's said, you can basically see the rust on the edges of the page, but coaster-count however is surprisingly really good. Regular updates, roadmap mode so you can identify WHERE those elusive missing coasters are, and yes, league tables for the uber-competitive.

I like ridecount, it's a nice idea and a very easy to use site and a lot of TS users seem to get a lot of use out of it - but there's definitely room for improvement if we're looking to stop people needing to go to external sites to keep track of their ride lists. I know it's a long way off, and as I say, ridecount's an excellent start, but put it alongside the shipping containers in your five year development plan ;)

Just a heads up to say we will shortly be releasing some of the first information about the new ridecount via our email newsletter, which should give you a little idea of what to expect. It's at thenew.ridecount.com if you haven't signed up yet :)

When the new ridecount is up and running would it be possible for me to see how many rides I have done at a park for specified time scale (example at Alton in 2013)?

At the moment there isn't quite the granularity to see the rides at a certain park for a certain year, but we do have yearly based ridecounts in the new version at the moment.

The good news is that we can easily add 'reports' to the new system, so we can hopefully figure out (once we're live) how to build that sort of report for you :D

Yes, as Joel has highlighted above, one of the key things we've been working on is strengthening the back-end systems which power ridecount. Most of this will be completely invisible to users, but I assure you the changes are there! By making these changes it should be far easier for us to implement new types of reports, to give you a more accurate and specific breakdown of your count :)

For those of you who missed it, our latest news update which was mailed out this morning focuses on user statistics and the way they can be used. When you combine our new look site with the more powerful behind the scenes systems I think it's fair to say that ridecount is stronger, and more flexible than ever before.

Hopefully it shouldn't be too long now before we have our new ridecount live for you all to start using :D

The main thing is, will the data be unaffected?

That's good, strengthening your back-end stops unexpected poo happening. ;)

Annnnnd we're live. Well, for a beta test at least :p

Hopefully you should find everything running smoothly, and we'll continue testing the site whilst developing further features over the coming weeks.

We'd love to hear your feedback about the site, and if you do have any issues or problems please report them via the help widget (the question mark icon in the bottom right corner on the ridecount site!) so we can track and help you with them.

    Thanks all :D

So you convert it so we can login to ridecount with towersstreet login's, and then you change it back again? Why did you do that?
