Russia vs NATO

Putin has always been a chancer. He's rightly predicted the lack of both political appetite, and military power of NATO to wage wars. He doesn't want a war with NATO, he wants to wave his willy around pretending he wants one so that the façade of the Russian bear growling once more can be heard.
I'm sure they'll be tonnes of threats and strong rhetoric around where the weapons used on Russian turf originated from (pictures are surfacing of American made weaponry being used in Rafah). But he also knows that by this time next year there's an increasing likelihood that his criminal ally will be back in the Whitehouse and the weapons supply will run down, hanging the Ukrainians out to dry in the process. Once he feels everyone has seen how impressive his willy is, he'll get bored of such stringent economic sanctions and declare a victory that he's "denazified" Ukraine whilst it smolders, and point to NATO countries impotence. As usual, impotent countries with depleted armed forces like ours will just roll over and follow the US lead.
I wouldn't go running to a Nuclear bunker with tins of Spam just yet.

Have you seen the price of spam recently young man!!!
Current very soft diet, so I have been doing interesting mix and match.
Microchopped spam and egg soft white rolls have been stunning...acceptable substitute to my usual best dry cured bacon.
My latest, overcooked corned beef hash.
Could probably slurp it through a straw.
The school dinner whiff has gone, with enough batches for a weeks non chew dinners.
And quickly back on topic.
As a good theoretical communist, who whistles the red flag tune every sunrise, I did start to get a little bit worried about that nice mister pootin when he got his boobies out on horseback, all that time ago.
Cluck me I thought, as soon as I realised we were in corner coffee shop, not the tavern...the bloke thinks he's lady clucking godiva.
One good clean shot from a distance, that's all we need.
World peace restored.

For the first time in history last night Russia fired a ICBM at Ukraine. It’s the first time a country has launched a ICBM at another in a war. Thankfully it had a conventional payload not nuclear. I don’t think Putin will go nuclear but it’s obviously a clear warning these missiles do work.

Russia-Ukraine war: Doubts cast over Kyiv claim that Russia launched intercontinental ballistic missile – as it happened
UK intelligence services say they are ‘urgently’ looking into Ukraine’s claim, which has been reportedly denied by a Western official

I don’t think anyone doubted they work. If anything it suggests he is so short of equipment that he is resorting to expensive missiles that ultimately do very little different than previously used missiles at that distance and with a conventional payload.
They are designed to send nuclear warheads to the other side of the globe, not send some TNT to the country next door. It’s like using Concorde to fly from London to Paris.

It's likely a warning/response to the US and UK allowing their long-range missiles to be used by Ukraine to attack targets in Russia.
I don't feel it's in Putin's interests to go nuclear or escalate this war beyond Ukraine (that's not to say it wouldn't happen). He's got supplies coming from Iran and North Korea, and North Korean troops are now (reportedly) on Ukrainian soil. Putin does not have the resources to start an all-out European war or start sending missiles across the globe. He's been failing for nearly 3 years to attack one country.
This ramping up in the last week will likely continue for a few months until Trump is in office. Both sides will push for as much land as possible so they are in better positions to negotiate come 2025.

Military sources have expressed doubt if some of these missiles actually work given they have hardly been fired and are quite old now. Indeed a leaked memo from Russia at the start of the conflict hinted not all the nukes even work anymore.
Indeed it’s just a warning to the west and Ukraine that they do, and they can carry nukes. The footage below is quite eerie when you watch it of each warhead coming through the clouds.

I’m confused. Wouldn’t the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings in WW2 have been prior examples of this sort of thing being done, with it actually being a nuclear bomb in those two cases?
It does seem like the Ukraine war is taking a potentially concerning direction, though… and it’ll certainly be interesting to see what happens once Trump takes the reins in America.
The press hype machine has already gone into overdrive, it would also seem. The Daily Express has already published an article saying about “which UK areas will be worst hit if Vladimir Putin declares WW3”… I don’t think this sort of thing helps with general war anxiety.

Thought they were dropped from planes not launched intercontinentally?I’m confused. Wouldn’t the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings in WW2 have been prior examples of this sort of thing being done, with it actually being a nuclear bomb in those two cases?

Ah, is that the difference? That makes sense.Thought they were dropped from planes not launched intercontinentally?
Putin went on tv today to address the nation. He mentioned in his speech
“In combat conditions, one of the newest Russian medium-range missile systems was tested, among other things. In this case, with a ballistic missile in a nuclear-free hypersonic equipment.”
Apparently it’s hypersonic and he also threatened to hit American and British military bases and countries supplying the weapons.
I doubt he will as that will invoke article 5. I think he will wait for Trump to take power in three weeks knowing he will be able to negotiate with him while Trump will probably revoke permission to fire the missiles into Russia.
In other news a Chinese ship is apparently the cause of the two broken undersea cables linking Finland to Germany and Lithuania to Sweden. About time we (the western world ) stop being so friendly with China as well as Russia.

Chinese Vessel Suspected of Damaging European Submarine Cables
European officials have suggested that the severing of two separate cables in the Baltic was “sabotage.” The Yi Peng 3 is the prime suspect.

ICBM stands for Inter-Continental Ballistic Missile, one which you can fire from one continent and lands in another. They're essentially rockets.Ah, is that the difference? That makes sense.
As @jon81uk explained, Little Boy and Fat Man, the Atomic Bombs, were dropped conventionally from B-52 Bomber planes over Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Edit: Hadn't seen @Poisson's further clarification, apologies. Always read the thread to the bottom.
Trump doesn't take power in three weeks.
We don't know what Trump will do, ever, I doubt if even Trump knows what he will do in three days, let alone three months.
Your correct. Don’t know why I said that for some reason I thought it was mid December not November! January 20th is the date he will get sworn in so a while to go yet.
