Small Worldwide Parks - General News and Updates

I've created this thread for new relating to some of the smaller parks around the world where chances are a thread of their own is unlikely to generate much interest or discussion. If a smaller park was however to get a major/substatial coaster though then it would still be worth its own thread!

Anyway let's start this off with Playland's Castaway Cove in New Jersey. They do not have any coasters of note right now but have just announced that they will be getting a new S&S LSM Triple Lanch Coaster called GaleForce in 2016. Looks like S&S's version of the Premier Sky Rocket clones:

Seems decent for a small park. RCDB also state that they are getting a second coaster in 2016:
rcdb.com said:
Few details on this second roller coaster have been released other than it said to wrap around the new for 2016 "GaleForce". The stating this as a steel, sit-down roller coaster above is just default settings and not to be considered accurate until the park provides more details.

Looks good, but probably has a very low capacity. I always think that something like this would be welcome at one of our smaller parks, such as Drayton, 'Mingo or Lightwater, but then both of these parks probably need rides with higher throughputs. Shows you can buy nice kit on a budget though!

Ooh, that's a rather interesting looking layout. Could be much more fun than the usual "glorified big loop + twisty bit".

ZDT's Amusement Park has released a POV of Switchback testing:

For those who don't know, the switchback is done on the straight section after the first drop and this system allows for two trains on what is basically a shuttle coaster, so increasing throughput.

Sorry to bump this thread, but since GaleForce opened at Playland's Castaway Cove on 26th May 2017, people have been complaining about it providing a rough ride. Well the park is now set to rectify this problem by retracking the ride for 2018! Yes, you heard me right, a year-old Coaster is already receiving the Hulk treatment! This is coming at no cost to the park.
EDIT: They are not retracting the ride for 2018! Damn iOS autocorrect!

Well, after doing some reading... the park has said that "the rails weren't completely aligned". Does that mean that the track wasn't attached properly? If so, that's quite scary. Or does it mean that there were bolts missing? If this is the case, then we've been there before *cough* Smiler bolts falling off *cough*.

@Matt N it sounds more as if the rails weren't parallel, a skill they presumably inherited when they bought Arrow's assets.

It does strike me as a little odd that S&S continue to get orders. This particular coaster seems to have been nothing but bad news and Merlin's Mayhem still hasn't opened at Dutch Wonderland.

I agree @Rick. GaleForce (or GaleFarce if you like! ;)) was originally announced in 2015 for a 2016 opening. However, the ride did not end up opening until 26th May 2017 due to track issues. Now, the ride is being retracked due to guess what... more track issues! In another S&S chronicle, Dutch Wonderland announced the construction of Merlin's Mayhem for 2017. Now that has been delayed to 2018!

In all fairness to S&S, however, their Space Shot rides are good fun and a very underrated ride type, in my opinion. The one I've done (Dr Doom's FearFall at IOA) was a fun ride, despite it not being as good as Falcon's Fury down the road in Tampa (currently my favourite drop tower). Also, Dodonpa (or should I say Do-Dodonpa) looks simply insane! Also, you shouldn't really judge a manufacturer by problems with one ride.

EDIT: iOS autocorrect really doesn't like the word "retracked" does it?

@Matt N Indeed - but those rides come from a very different era. The magicians behind that madness are gone and doing other things, either contributing to the RMC revolution or elsewhere.

S&S still sells Space Shot rides, albeit not as frequently as they once did.

Indeed - but they are designed by different people, almost a different company really. They are selling quite a few to China, I'm not sure anyone has effectively ripped them off yet so they're having to buy them from S&S.

According to Screamscape, the rides at Buffalo Bill's Casino in Nevada are "closed until further notice", including the Arrow hypercoaster Desperado. Lance is not currently sure whether it's just a temporary thing, or whether it is a permanent closure. Here's a link to Screamscape: http://www.screamscape.com/html/las_vegas.htm
Sounds interesting to say the least. We'll have to see what happens.

Jardin d'Acclimatation appears to be a small amusement park situation within a larger Parisian park. They are owned by the wonderful Compagnie des Alpes and have added a Gerstlauer Bobsled this year which is set to open tomorrow:

Doesn't look too bad!

:)

I'll have you know, they're actually owned by "LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton SE", the conglomerate responsible for such delights as Moët champagne, Hublot watches, Marc Jacobs fashion, and now, apparently, an actually pretty decent Gerstlauer

:p

Well, based on POVs alone, I'd say that's the most fun looking coaster to open in Europe so far this year.

Ah, looks like they might just be operated by Compagnie des Alpes then? Unless RCDB don't have a clue as to what they're on about!

:)
