Not sure how well this could go as I'm not really sure we have a lot of tattoo fans on here, but here goes
I absolutely adore tattoos and have a few myself, 7 in total. I have two tribal (I was young ,) and five custom pieces. I thought I'd start a topic to see if anyone on here has any themselves, possibly share any pictures of ones they have, or share designs/flash sheets they've seen or have been done by artists they like.
It was actually my Grandad who started my interest in tattoos off as weird as that is . He was in the Navy during the Second World War and had several done there and I was always fascinated by them.
I'm absolutely in love with any kind of vintage style tattoo from this era and anything done by Sailor Jerry. The bold lines and colours are so vivid and the designs, even though simply done, contain so much detail!
My favourite ever design is by SJ himself and is this:
I absolutely love the vintage feel of it! Hopefully at some stage I'd like to get this across my back, however modified so the flags are Union Jacks and I'd like to change the ship to a drawing of the ship my Grandad served on during the war.
Vintage tattoos are having a resurgence at the minute, with a lot of current artists using the bold lines and colours in their designs. One of my favourite artists using this method at the moment is a guy called Dan Smith. He's featured on LA Ink many many times and his work is well respected! Here's one of his flash sheets that shows how he uses the vintage style in his designs:
Some recent designs that I've come across that I love:
I love how flawless the face is on the side of the Crow and how intricate it is! This is a design by a Sweedish artist called Jonas Uggli.
This is a design by Andrea Giulimondi from a shop called The Family Business down in London. The detail is incredible to say how small the piece is!
And finally:
This is the latest piece I've had done up at King Arthurs Tattoo's in Scarborough. I'd wanted to get a piece done to remind me of, as weird as it sounds, my failed attempt at uni a couple of years that made me realise how important my home life actually was and how much family meant. I took them in the writing and an idea of what i wanted using examples of pictures I'd found in various books and magazines and this is what they came up with. Please excuse the terrible quality as I took this on my iPad and uploaded it from there. It does look a lot better in real life . I had this done all in one 2 hour sitting about 6/7 months ago
Anyway, enough of me rattling on! These are examples of what I like and a bit of the work I've had done and now I'd love to see anything that other people have had done, their favourite works and artists, or any views that they have on tattoos themselves
