The Alton Towers Dungeon

What were the hours for Tree Top Quest out of interest?

Mean I'm sure hotel guests would've done it if it were ever open outside of park hours, much like the golf or waterpark...

Come on Merlin. For the money you have spend on Tat you could have had a new flume

I agree absolutely, I don't want to give @Log Flume's Dennis a hard-on, but surely Charlie should be knocked down to make way for a giant flume for SW9 in the early 2020s. Huge 70 foot tall 50 degree drops, giant castle theming structures, backwards drops, double drops, long tunnels and indoor areas with large fire and smoke effects, and airtime segments like on Chiapas.
(Not that this will ever happen obviously, but let a guy daydream please)

I like the way you think!!! Are there any vertical flumes? I'm not aware of any. An Oblivion style flume would be freakin' intense. SW9 - World's first vertical flume. The hard-on has definitely been given

Can’t believe everyone is hating on this.

A dungeon in the towers would be great. Ive been to Blackpool, London and Warwick and each is its own experience. I wouldn’t go every visit if it was an additional cost but much like subterra I would ride at least once a visit. Not everyone goes to the towers more than once a year, any attraction that keeps people busy (paid or not) is a positive.

I can see a dungeon working in CATF, the boat ride is a staple of London and would work great here. The elevator scene takes up a lot of room and has aged badly so will likely go. If I’m not mistaken the mechanics underneath are contained in a pit? It might be possible to move some of the drop towers from subterra and install them here with some modification. What a central (projected like a shrek head) judge ordering the execution.

A dungeon in CATF wouldn’t require many staff if it mainly consists of the boat ride and finale. I’m guessing any installation here would be an added attraction.

A dungeons in the tower would be fitting. No ride hardware, something like Warwick’s installation would be great. Considering the nature of this attraction (walking and actors), I’d imagine this would be an added fee. It would also double up as a scare maze in Halloween so added benefit for merlin. Once less maze to setup. It would great to expand the story of hex etc...

I’ve always wanted to see a dungeons in the towers, it’s always perplexed me as to why there was one at Warwick and Blackpool but not in the towers itself. Great news.

Guys, Im really sorry I think Im to blame for this. After Charlie closed I suggested turning it into a Scarefest Maze utilising the existing bits that were left. So, so, so very sorry.

---

I can see how this will work, completely and unfortunately.

- Pay Tent to be installed at the top of the queue path (as per Warwick Dungeon) - tent needs no planning either.

- Queue line exists

- Pre Show becomes Photo Opportunity - obviously

- Boat Ride - Similar to Tyrant Boat Ride in London Dungeon

- Lift waiting area - Labyrinth

- Lift - ? I dunno some simulated crap - an evening in Stoke?

- Lift exit (takes stairs into un-utilised space)

- Room 1 - Surgery, for a change at a Dungeon

- Room 2 - Courtroom, for a change at a Dungeon

- Back across Stairs - Dungeon of Sub:Terra drop ride

- Exit into shipping container.

Aside from moving the ABC towers from Sub Terra it needs a budget of £3.60 and its almost ready to go.

Dimmingsdale Valley woodland, which is a couple of fields away from Dark Forest and the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory building, is currently on fire. This Dungeons idea might not happen after all...

Not far from DF or CATCF you say? Isn’t the Skyride due a good fire?

No where near DF.

I was on park yesterday, walking down the path that cuts across the front of the lake, facing Spinball is was when I first saw the smoke. From ground level, I mistaken the smoke for clouds, I thought it was strange as the sky was clear of clouds. Look like it was coming from behind Spinball. It wasn't until I was at the top of Oblivion, that when you looked left just before you go over the edge, I could clearly see the smoke. I couldn't tell if that was a controlled bone fire or an out of control forest fire. It did look quiet far away, about a mile at least.

On the way home around 6pm I saw fire cruise racing towards it coming from the Uttoxeter direction after passing the JCB. I can't say if these were the first engines to respond or not, or more back up.

But cheers for killing my joke anyway! :D

Anyway, the topic. I hate the idea. It lacks both sense and creativity. Why, when the park are attempting to reduce staff by cutting single rider queues and baggage staff, would they then throw money at an attraction heavily reliant on staff?

Given the struggle to ride all the coasters in a single day due to the awfully short park hours (some of the shortest of all the Merlin Parks, alongside Chessington, etc), why would people then pay extra for this? Hardly a cheap affair as it is already...
