I would also aim to get to the park before the gates open and leave after the park closes if possible to max your day
Yeah the bus doesnt really give you that freedom.

I think Alton is one of the hardest parks to get to using public transport.![]()
Defiantly the worst large park to get to in the UK, some of the stuff in Wales is pretty hard as well though, you definitely need a taxi to get to Oakwood.I think Alton is one of the hardest parks to get to using public transport.![]()
It wouldn't be so bad if the bus times were better.
Since the park closing times change. The day I was at Towers the park closed at four, so the bus back to stoke was already an hour after closing. And maybe the bus company thinks people don't want to leave Stoke earlier than 9:30 am?Yes I don't understand why the bus can't leave at nine and then maybe at sixish

What we really need is a shuttle bus running throughout the day, however clearly the bus companies have decided that it's not economical![]()
Maybe, however Bobbejaanland has a regular bus service running throughout the day.I agree. Something you have to book online so they know numbers etc
There's rules about changing scheduled services. Something like they have to register changes in advanceThey need to adjust the timetable when Towers extend/decrease the opening times.
There isn't any way for them to be flexible with times is there?Yeah, all bus services have to be approved by the local bus commissioner.
It's a real shame the Alton Towers railway station was closed by Beeching. That would have been perfect.
May I suggest if you are planning to get a taxi and wish to ask other members to share taxi costs that you use the dedicated trip reports and plans forum to discuss your plans and not this thread.
Please also remember that there will be no trains from Derby to Uttoxeter and a reduced service on all other lines through Derby from 22nd July to 7th October
Don't get me started on Beeching cutsIt's a real shame the Alton Towers railway station was closed by Beeching. That would have been perfect.
Funny you should say that. The original excuse for the parking charge was that it was to fund the now legendary "Alton bypass".Don't get me started on Beeching cuts
I hate to be that person but... with all the parking charges why can't Alton Towers subsidise a bus? For the environment and all that.
