Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2
So now we know when this thing is going to open, let's see how things are progressing on the site! Enjoy!
Firstly, a look at some of the grinding work that has been taking place:
I'm sure these bits of track will be painted black:
A bridge/walkway was being constructed, not sure what for though:
Steps which I imagine will lead down to the entrance:
Entrances to the indoor queue, with painting just inside one of the doors:
From a different angle:
More doorways with yellow entrances:
I hope this area get a lot of attention in terms of landscaping before opening day as it currently looks a real mess:
The on-ride photo camera:
And again:
But what is this? Turns out those other cameras are a second ORP camera and flash:
This leaves the question, what will this one turn out to be?
There seemed to be yellow boards inside of the fences off area of the ride, I assume these are going to be put onto the inside of the fencing:
The fence is sticking out more than usual here:
Digging work at the top of the steps:
You can see where the path leading down will go as well here:
A look at where said path will lead:
At last, I managed to get some clear photos of a completed Marmaliser foot:
Lots more paving has been put down, and the games stall is looking brilliant:
I really do like it:
The back wall has now been added to also:
The indoor section now looks fully enclosed:
I kind of like how they've had to 'patch' it up so there aren't gaps where the supports go through the walls:
A look at the station and shop:
A view showing The Smiler, the themed games stall and Oblivion:
This looked very different 12 months ago:
Usual overview from Blivvy's merge point:
A camera being added, looking at the final brake run:
Here it is:
A little look inside the station:
I'd imagine this will be near the start of the queue:
The queue heads over towards where the shop is:
More queue:
Yay, someone with a jet wash:
This was being worked on/attached, possible a sensor:
The completed bridge:
A look at some of the rock work that will be on the edges of the paths:
Another look at the paving work:
A couple of views of the Marmaliser:
A sneaky look inside of the building before the first lift:
This arrived at the end of the day:
Pouring concrete at the top of the steps:
Finally, I have had a few requests that I go and take a few more photos looking at The Smiler from outside of the park, like I did when the park was closed. I thought now was a good time to do it as the track is complete along with most of the potentially visible theming.
There it is in the distance:
A close up, you can see a lot of the track:
The Smiler next to Oblivion:
I had hoped that I might see it testing as I was up there until about 6:30pm but it wasn't to be. A crane also appeared to arrive at the construction site, I didn't get any photos as it has started to rain and the visibility had worsened significantly. I assume they must have had some relatively heavy things to lift.
I hope you enjoyed! As usual, all photos were taken from areas of the park (and for those outside the park, on public footpaths) fully accessible to the public. Please do not replicate my photos without permission. TowersStreet may use them if they wish.
