I've always been really uncomfortable with the idea of people sending money directly to youtubers/streamers. Just seems really dodgy to me with some very dubious power dynamics/relationships.

Not a criticism of anyone on the recieving end, just another way I don't understand the way the modern world works

I don't proclaim to know the precise demographic of the channel's audience, but reasonably assuming there are significant numbers of children and/or neurodiverse people sending money, would that be ethical/moral?

Us kids were putting cheques in the post in the 80's. It's just a modern version of shareware computer games; you create content for free and ask people to give you money if you liked it and want more similar content created. Not sure how anyone can have a problem with it really.

Im off to play llamatron on my ST...

Exactly.... just like Roblox and Fortnite before it, you want the extra content you pay. Very clever really.

Imagine the same with Super Mario World in the 90's. I'd have bankrupt my parents!

Agreed. Please can we keep discussion in this thread to Theme Park Worldwide's content and not the personal lives of Shawn and Charlotte.

Thanks.
...and...
Ok I think we've now established the gist of how a Youtuber makes money. If we could now get back onto discussing the content that's produced by TPW rather than getting into more chat about their own personal lives or how they operate their business. Thanks.
Like everyone is entitled to an opinion, there is a right to a private and family life too.
Anyone else want to put up their pay rates and mortgage payments on here so we can all discuss?
Questions of individual morality have no place here!
Give the (successful) guy a break.

It's just another variant on direct selling as far as I can see. If you watch a series on Disney+ or Netflix you're paying the platform and then the platform is paying the 'talent'. Here you are just cutting out the middle man. It's no different to crowdfunding the way I see it.

I don't think there's anything unethical in it either as no one who enjoys the content is being forced or bribed into handing over money - they can still watch it for free if they want to.

I don't know how many times we as a team have to post reminders that this thread is for discussion about Theme Park Worldwide's content.

Continued disregard of this request may lead to us having to consider locking the thread.

Thank you.

A lot of the people sending money were adults from what I could see, and they were leaving messages like "For the loveliest people ever", or "for getting me through lockdown"; etc. They were clearly very appreciative for all the support and the channel is probably going to grow and grow from here. They must have been given well over £300 from what I saw, most likely more. Fair enough though if people enjoy the content and want to donate money. Good luck to them - their content is probably the best out there. And I consider this to be discussion of their content, as it's relating to the livestream (content) from last night. At the end of the day, people are discussing the content of the most recent livestream, which was publicly available to view/discuss.

Sorry Rob, we will try to behave...

Ok to make things crystal clear here for one final time. You are fine to talk about the content that they produce. In general, that is what they themselves talk about in their videos. So in short:
  • Talking about how they made x amount from the livestream isn't fine. They don't total this up and talk about it on the stream, so there's no need for us to discuss it here. They may thank individuals who donate, but it's not constructive to discussion here to go on about how they got x amount from one person etc. If you're that bothered/appreciative about said donations, then comment on their own live stream chat, not here.
  • Talking about the rights and wrongs of donations isn't fine. We've established it exists, and that's the end of it. But again it's not something TPW themselves discuss on their videos.
  • Talking about how they make/manage their money isn't fine. I wouldn't want a forum that I'm not even signed up to to be discussing how I make my money and whether it's acceptable or not. It's a private matter, and if it's an issue that you have with it, then raise it with TPW directly where they can defend themselves, not via a third party forum.
Remember, TPW have their own outlets for feedback, be that via comments on Facebook, Twitter or on their Youtube videos. That's mainly where feedback on their own personal lives, donations etc should go, not TowersStreet where they do not have the ability to reply.

Getting back to content discussion, is anyone else waiting for their Scarefest construction update? Always a good watch those. 🙂

I'm here to say something nice. Charlotte ran the 5k on Sunday and I watched the vlog and she comes across very very well. She's very like-able, and genuine (I thought on this occasion anyway - I don't generally watch their vlogs). The best thing the channel did was lose the wider circle of people and just focus on Shawn and Charlotte. I don't 'dislike' Shawn but his style of being a bit loud and constant all over the vlogs (or this one, anyway) puts me off a bit (just a personal thing most likely). I think what I'm trying to say is, I think I'm starting to not dislike the channel. Forgive me for speaking about the personalities somewhat, but I hope you'd agree I'm doing so in a positive manner :)

Anyone here doing the Theme Park Worldwide Christmas Quiz? It starts at 7pm today (Christmas Eve) on YouTube, should be a bit of (cheesy) fun.
